Hello campers, calling on your vasts amount of knowledge and experience. My family and I would like to know of good camping for the following areas, Redwood National Park, San Francisco Metro and Hearst Castle. We are fully self contained fivers with generator and two teenagers. Thanks for your inputs.

For Hearst Castle I would suggest San Simeon. It's a state campground just south of the castle. Book early!

Depends on when your going. We enjoyed Paso Robles which is approximately an hour from Hearst Castle. Check out Wine Country RV Resort, there is a Water Park and a Winery right next to the campground. Just a thought.

Actually, your posting title IS your answer! California Camping is a "bible" for Californians who RV and Camp here. It's a book by Tom Stienstra "California Camping" at book stores and on line, covers a huge number of campgrounds, rates them by fishing (Tom is an avid Fisherman!), natural beauty, ammenities, et. Has maps and descriptions of the campground and area. Tips too. Some are remote areas, some are BLM land, others National Parks or Forests, private campgrounds, city and county owned campgrounds, etc! Most of them are not on normal reservation systems, or known only by locals.

I've used this book many times till it just fell apart, and bought new ones to replace it! The best $25-$30.00 investment you'll ever make!

Ditto what fordsooperdootydieselsmoker said. A necessity for Califoria camping. Great book.

Ha Ha...yes my pages of California Camping are falling out as well. In any event if you can get into Morro Bay SP you will be close and it is a very nice park. Wine Country RV is very nice as well and we hold a rally with no less than 45 rigs every November but it is pricey.

We are going to Morro Dunes Rv Park tomorrow and will visit Cambria, which is 20 minutes away. Then you have Pismo Beach to the south, which is 25 minutes away. Morro Dunes RV Park is a nice park with full hook-ups and many pull thru's.

In San Francisco we stay at Marin RV park in Larkspur. You can ride the ferry to the City and then take the trollys or cable cars to get around.

Near San Francisco you have Half Moon Bay, Harris Beach, Bodega Bay
Up north by the Redwoods is Humboldt Redwood state park. Beautiful campground,Patricks Point Prairie Creek .To me all of them are great campgrounds.

This was a pretty nice campground, and when we went, President's weekend, no reservations were required, we just pulled in a picked a spot.
