Hopefully the OP will post here how it turned out. I sold a truck one time and the guy came from SC and just wanted me to sign the title over to him. My DMV said to insist we go and have it oficially changed. They said if the truck would come off the trailer on his way home and cause an accident, it was technically still my truck and my problem. I insisted we do it right.
As you can see from all the post, the laws state to state aren't consistant.
When I bought my MH in NJ their DMV wouldn't issue me a temp without a rider from State Farm proving I had liability. That wasn't what they told me on the phone before I left. Luckily they accepted a faxed copy from my agent, and I was shortly on my way.

I live in KY and just purchased a travel trailer from a dealer in GA and I paid by check. They gave me a temporary plate and a bill of sale and I received the GA title in the mail about a week later.
Now I have to pay the KY State Fire Marshall's office $60 for an inspection before I can pay the sales tax and transfer the title to KY. I'm supposed to transfer the title within 10 days of bringing it back into the state but the inspector is on vacation and won't be back for at least a week, then we'll have to schedule the inspection so that isn't going to happen.
At least it will all be worth it when we get to hit the road soon!

Need to lookup info from your dmv site. I only thing I found was the offical bill of sale. I'm sure there is more info there and the forms you need to fill out. When I sold my blazer (in IA) I had to give bill of sale, and a couple of other things

When I bought a vehicle from out of state, I went to the DMV (of VA) and got a "temporary" plate that give for these situations. I cost 5 bucks.

However, we also have an immediate notification option built into our DMV's website that allows you to notify the DMV that the vehicle is no longer under your ownership and the information pertaining to the new owner.
This would not apply because as soon as the vehicle is sold the title is no good. The new owner must obtain a new title in the state where he wishes to title the RV. What is needed is an in-transit permit. An in-transit permit allows one to take the RV from one state to another before he registers it. The buy will need proof of insurance before an in-transit permit will be issued. In-transit permits are used by the manufacture to deliver new RVs.

Since I lost my job today, I'm not going to be buying anything. Meaning I won't be selling my trailer which I own free and clear. Thanks for the advise. I hope I get to use it in the not too distant future.

In Oregon, when you did a "Title Transfer", a new copy of the same title is sent to you with your name typed on it, vs the name of the previous owner. On the back of the title is the place where the information of the new owner is filled in to indicate that they now own it and will be responsible for transfering it. The License Plates follow the vehicle around until its taken out of state and retitled there.

This thread is already 4 pages deep but here's my 2 cents.
When I sold my Dutchmen, the new owner paid in full before the transfer was made. I then sent all of the paperwork, including the title and Bill of Sale. They were able to register the trailer in their home state. They then sent the plate to me to attach to the trailer. I delivered the trailer a few states away and the new owner towed it home the rest of the way. It all went very smoothly.
