Did you build your own generator box or did you buy one from Hayes Equip?

I also have seen JoeChiOhki's front cargo rack and gave it a try. I had the local machine shop take the front two tow hooks and fab two plates with six inch reciever tubes. Here are the results, rock solid.

What about drivng at night? Looks like it is somewhat high and blocks the headlights, just could be the way the pic shows it! Capt PJ

Do you have a picture of the whole thing from the front?
I have a front mount already but want to do almost exactly what you did.
Is the plug mount upfront for your generator?
Here's a picture of the whole thing (I plan on moving the genny box over to the side now that I have the two tubes - no more worry about it leaning to the side ):

The plug is actually for backing up my boat trailer. It has surge brakes with an electric disconnect (when the boat is on the rear my backup lights automatically disconnect the surge brakes) so when I push my trailer from the front receiver I turn on my park lights to disconnect the surge brakes.

I built my own generator box. Later, Dave.

It must be the angle of the pix. Was driving at night with no obstruction to the lighting.

Dang, luv2skyski, I can't believe I hadn't replied to this thread yet

Very nicely done on the front rack, I think I may take a page from you and modify my rack so I can take it apart like that .

Being able to slide the tubes in separately and drop the rack on would definitely be easier than the current method of propping it up on the receivers and trying to carefully slide it in.

Elbeano, you really might want to get some 3" tube that's just a tad smaller than yer outer tube size so you can hammer a 3/4" - 1" band of it over the ends of each receiver tube to make reinforcing rings.

They help to keep the mouth of the tube from deforming with weight and road vibration, like a traditional hitch.

Hey, that would be a great idea on hitch extensions too where they are heavy and awkward to maneuver into place.

Since it's already built, you'd have to use that method.

If anyone else is build a copy, you can get fab parts that have the ring already forged in place. The also have the benefit that there is no weld bead inside the tubes, making fabrication easier.

Both Reese and Torklift make them, and you can find them at many hitch suppliers.

Hey, Joe. Even with the old single hitch point it was very difficult to get the genny carrier lined up when the genny was in the box (even with it mounted in the center). Now it's a piece of cake even with the genny mounted on the side. Thanks for the great idea. Happy camping, Dave.
