If this is too tricky have you considered fabbing some pyramid shapes onto the ends of the tubes to help them self-guide in?
Its just a matter of them binding up while trying to slide them in together, it appears that there's a slight twist to the tubes, so when one tries to slide them in (or out, usually out is the worst) the tubes will bind up and one has to rock them side to side to get them to go in.
Also, being able to break it down means it will take up less room when stored.
