I would "assume" that most RV manufacturer's would include a similar type warning, I am sure that this issue has come up many times previously and they need to CYA.

I am just speaking from my past experience, that's it.
I have filled my tanks many times with the water shooting out the side and never had any problems.
I didnt get a manual with my trailer either.
Are all trailers made with the the same components? No.
So maybe some are made with expanding water tanks. My past 3 trailers werent.

Well I feel bad this happened to you.I have read all the replies and manual directions although this is the first time I have heard of this happening. For some reason I would think water sloshing around in the tank during normal travel would create more pressure then a hose could ever do..but thats just me.I always man the hose per say but will be a little more aware of whats going on after reading this.

ditto, although I have a truck camper

My camper's fresh inlet is via a loose hose, no threads and has an air return. I also have a screw-on inlet for city water, but that does not fill the fresh tank in my unit.

Never even thought that this could be an issue.

On my old TT, I "stuffed" the hose in the filler spout and left it unattended. I have done this many times before, but this time I got distracted. After several minutes I heard a loud "crack" from inside the trailer. I was no longer distracted. The water tank was under the dinette seat and it split the 2x2's apart. I had some reconstruction to do after that, and I never again left the hose unattended. So for those who are calling BS, it can and does happen! The hydraulic action of water can be amazing. I think that once the water starts coming out, the tank still has room to expand. The problem is when you allow the water to continue emptying into the tank. Water is going in faster than it can come out and the tank has to expand.

I didnt mean you are lieing about it happening dude. I mean it was bull**** that the dealer said you overfilled it and it was your fault.

The manufacturer should fix all of the damage.

I also meant that if this was a common occurance, more people would know about it, the dealer would warn you on PDI and there would be sticker for it.

This happened to a buddy of mine also. He was filling the tank slowly and then asked his daughter to turn the water off. She cranked it all of the way on and before he could do anything, the tank had expanded and lifted the floor inside. So much, in fact, he couldn't open the bathroom door.

It does happen, however, I still fill mine unattended. I make sure the vent lines are unclogged on the top of the tanks and then fill, only turning about 1/8th of a rotation. It takes a little over 1.5 hours to fill 150 gallons, but at least the vent lines can handle that much pressure. This has worked on this trailer and the last. Just make sure all of that water you are putting in can get out at the same rate if it needs to. I also use a filler that will allow water out of the same hole I am using. It screws on the end of the hose and uses a polyethelene hose that is about 1/2" in diameter.

I've always filled mine unattended using the little adapter posted here, that leaves plenty of room around the filler as well as the vent for excess air and water to escape. I call B.S. on the dealers response.

It was mentioned in my manual as well and I do fill mine unattended but slowly. The main reason for filling slowing is once I filled with full pressure and when water came out of the overflow I turned off the hose. When I got to my campsite I barely had half a tank from filling too fast and since then I fill slowly to ensure a completely full FW tank. I hope you can get it repaired under warranty because that could happen to anyone of us on the forum. Good luck!!
