We are planning to take 3 weeks in July and travel south from Calgary, Alberta through the States. It will be my husband and I and our 2 boys (7 and 9). We have a 29' travel trailer and truck.

I'd love to hear some suggestions from those with experience. Where should we go. We are looking for some great camping, warmth (don't want to spend our holiday in the rain), adventure, and family fun. We'd like to see some interesting places and do some relaxing. We don't mind driving some distance but want to spend several days in each location.

Bring on the ideas. Much appreciated!

You cited an impossible task. You can't tour the US in three weeks, stopping for days to enjoy the scenery. It would be really difficult to see just the sights in the western US in 3 weeks. But to give you my take on the western US must see list it would be Glacier NP, Yellowstone NP, Grand Tetons NP, Grand Canyon NP, Redwoods NP, Arches National Park, and Carlsbad Caverns. You can easily spend a week just in Yellowstone/Tetons area. There's many, many more and I'm sure you'll hear of them in this thread.

Sorry I guess I didn't make myself clear. We would like to travel in the US but we don't expect to see the entire US. Just looking for some interesting locations. We don't care if we visit 1 State or 5.

I like your "must see" list, those were some of the locations we were considering. We've been to Glacier NP which is beautiful.

I recommend the North Carolina seashore and the Outer Banks. Beautiful weather, some nice campgrounds, nice beaches.
Stay on US 17 South through South Carolina and Georgia; then get on US 1 & A1A and drive down through Florida.
OR..
drive through the Smokie Mountains and down the Blue Ridge Parkway. Gorgeous drive with numerous places to stop and take in the local culture.
If you make it down I-95 in NC, exit 95, drop me a line and I'll buy you a cigar from JR's.
Sounds like a fun trip.

Sounds like a great trip. The boys will love it!! If you've been to glacier I would skip it and go straight to Yellowstone spending at least 3-4 days here then south to Tetons for a day or 2.
From here south through Salt Lake City to the Canyonlands, Moab then to Southern Colorado (Durango, Silverton (Ride the Train) Ouray. This is a beautiful drive through the San Juan Mountains then back up and if you have time go back thru South Dakota to Badlands, Mt Rushmore. Good camping in all these areas. Have a GREAT time!!! Enjoy thse Boys!! Mine are 33 and 30 now but we took them camping when they were young.. We have great memories!!
