On my last 5ver the gel coat and decals deteriorated rapidly even thought I washed and waxed many many times. --- On my new 5ver I want to start out right from the beginning using the best wax that will preserve the gel coat finish and decals.-----In the store the other day most waxes said for painted surfaces only. ---What wax product is best for gel coat and decals ???

Mike---I used a number of different products on the old Alfa. They were all regular automotive products. I used mostly Turtle Wax when doing a regular wax job. And Turtle wax wash & wax when washing. ----I live at 7000 feet and the UV at this altitude is bad. ---- Also I know that the decals on the front suffered greatly from constantly trying to scrub heavy and dried bug hits off.

If you have vynal graphics, do not wax them.A good product to protect them is 303 aerospace prtectant. It is available a Murrays auto parts and West marine in my area. I have had good luck with 2001 as a wax for my MH I used to use it on my boat and it woul last for a year. I am having the same luck on the MH. Use a good cleaner to get the fiberglass stripped and cleaned then put on the wax staying away from the decals finish up with the 313.

I have used Meguires Tech II wax on mine - see pic in profile - and like it very much. It's easy to apply and take off - however, since the 5er is white, sometimes you have to look hard to make sure you don't miss any when taking off. I waxed mine in June of 08 before going to Myrtle Beach - covered it in November and when I took the cover off last week, it's still making the water bead. Get some help - it's a job. Allen

Contact Collinite and ask for their recommendations as they make several waxes for fiberglass boats, trucks, airplanes, cars, etc. I have been using their #845 Insulator Wax a pure wax on all of my vehicles for the past 20+ years. I have never found any wax easier to apply, or better protection.www.collinite.com

If you are interested in trying the 303 products you can order a set of free samples (you pay P & H about $5). Click the pic for details . . .
