I will soon leave WA. State for the first time. I would like to know what special items are needed for Oregon, California, Arizona and Idaho. I'm always armed for one(CWP). Next, chains, flares, D.O.L. required items needed. Do I put my portable generator in the back of the truck with gas in gen.tank, or is it carried separate? Do you all stop at weigh stations? 3500 Ram with 30 foot Cougar. If I missed anything, feel free to jump in. I have Coach-Net. What is the brand and medium priced GPS to use? Sorry for the load of Questions.

Gen would be handy, I would carry it in PU with a lock and chain for both travel and camping. Don't stop at weigh stations. I never carry chains, will wait out any snow storms, 5th wheel or motor home. I carry reflectors for emergency. I have a Garmin GPS that I can program my routes the nite before we travel on my computer and donwnload into the unit. Don't put to much faith in it getting you there on it's own, they tend to send you on some really wild goose chases. Sounds like you are a worrier, don't try to overthink problems and just go for it. You will finds things that you will require or that will make travel more pleasant as you travel. Can find most everything you need at Walmart as you travel. Most of this stuff you will see other people using and want, it never ends. I just came across the entire U.S. with just bedding, 2 spoons, 2 forks, 2 knives and a couple of pots and a couple of dishes. We were picking up our new motorhome and drove a little rice burner back to get it and didn't have much room to carry stuff. Now we are fulltimers and have everything we own in it. Just enjoy the ride. Feel free to email me with any questions.

Lol, I love this post. "I will be leaving my State for the first time." and the next thing that the writer confirms is "I am carrying a concealed weapon."

Try not to shoot everything that moves, ok? Lol. Honestly, we are all not out to get you.

Cheers

Most RVers try to get through cities on weekends, but Phoenix should be an exception if you are planning on traveling the 101. We are in the midst of a multi year project of widening, and the ADOT has been closing different sections of the 101 from Friday night to Monday morning. The 10 and the 17 are not being closed.

You are kidding right? You do know that Washington is part of a larger contiguous nation called the USA? We don't need papers or permission to cross state lines, it hasn't gotten that bad yet. I would suggest you get out more and remember that you hand gun is not welcomed in every jurisdiction.

You don't have to stop at weigh stations. Flares are always a good thing to have. Chains will get you in more trouble than they will get you out of--waste of money. Firearm probably unnecessary but if it makes you feel more comfortable, take it. I wouldn't leave a generator in the back of a truck if it were portable--seems like that would be at risk for a theft.
Don't know anything about a GPS, I still use maps, electronic things are above my pay grade.

Definitely get a GPS.... they range from about $79 to uppity. We have the Garmin 350... which is a middle of the road unit and am thoroughly satisfied with it. It has saved a lot of arguments between me and the "navigator" that can't read a map!

Also, you need a set of trouble markers in case you bread down. I got the triangles instead of flares because they last longer.

My theory about the snow chains is this.... if it snows we don't go. But we plan on not being where it can snow on us.

We'll be getting to Washington state about September this year. We've never been there... yet.
