It appears to be another "market demand" item, whatever that means. I'm going to be buying propane tomorrow and Flying J quotes 2.799 per gallon for all their propane in all the locations that I looked at. At the end of January, I paid $2.20 per gallon at a propane distributor. $.50 per gallon is a lot of variance and I'm sure that Flying J is charging it because they can.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the "Greed Factor" plays into everything bought and sold in the commodity market.
If the guys getting $2 a gallon could get $4 ??? They would -- I would, and I'll bet you would too... Supply and demand dictate what people can get, or what they have to accept.
I have a tree service and a welding shop. My standard rate for both is $50.00 an hour for me. (An additional $30.00 and hour for my first helper, $20.00 an hour for each helper after that)
If I could get $100.00 and hour or $200.00 an hour? I would. I freely admit it, I'm a greedy SOB. I work hard but if If I can get more $$ for less effort and still be an honest law abiding business man? Sign me up!
If people will pay it, the propane company is going to charge it.
Winston Churchill: "It is a socialist idea that the making of profits should be considered a vise. I would allow that losing money should be considered the vise"
3 out of 5 commercials on TV are law firms fishing for clients to sue a drug company or file an asbestos claim. You never hear people screaming about this kind of greed. And yet these rampant lawsuits SEVERELY impact the price of almost everything you buy including propane.

As coal, nuclear, oil, etc., have been vilified, the demand for other things like natural gas has gone up in order to produce the energy we need. It isn't just greed. It is supply and demand, and the demand for less poluting fuel is being forced up by certain politicians and activists.

Now ! Now! It's a free market. That means a company can charge what they want. It also means you can pay what you want.
Notice, Washington has done nothing to increase supply or conservation. I feel $3 will be typical by summer.

There is nothing "up" with the propane prices. They set their own price. You either pay that price or you don't. You disagree with that you can set up your own propane distributorship and set your own price that you think is fair.
Then everyone will be happy..............
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Been a $1.75 gal all winter in Yuma, AZ. at Super Fuels. There is demand here with all the RVs and other markets. One pumper at Super Fuels told me his personal high this winter was almost 1200 gallons in a day. They also have a second tank and another pumper. Thats a bunch of tank refills.

I have noticed that you pay for convenience too...When Buying propane at RV parks and other places whose core business is not propane or other fuels, you will pay more. I've taken my propane bottles to a local fuel oil distributor's office, and gotten the cheapest rates. They deal with filling propane tanks much larger for people's homes. It's no skin off of their back to fill my 5 20 pound cylinders when they fill their 500 gallon delivery truck at the same price!

I have found often the cost to be higher at a wholesale/retail distributor … it is their intent not to undercut their retail dealers…

Propane prices are way different just 20 miles apart,Gas stations set there own price based on there profit margin.I work for a supplier and it's $2.49 at are dock, down the road 1 mile at the Cheveron station 3.75 at there dock. Were running a special for homes right now at 1.89 per, which is less than my employee rate, that sucks! But I don't care I'm retiring Fri,for good. then I'm putting the camper on and taking off and then I get to pay retail for the stuff wherever we maybe,I can deal with that!!!!
