I searched and came away as confused as before. I'm ready to purchase a French Press, but after reading lots of posts I'm still not sure which one will be best for me. Here are the important facts:

1. Will be used almost exclusively for just me.
2. Somewhere between 12 and 20 oz. is perfect.
3. One I can purchase on ebay. (I hate going to the the store for anything.)

Thanks for your suggestions.

Have you tried these:

Coffee Cone

My son was in the coffee business... Terrafazione Italia, Seattle's Best Coffee, Starbucks. He recommends a French press and also a coffee cone, which is much easier to clean up.

I know you said you were looking for a plunge pot, but I thought I'd throw this out there for you. I've used a plunge pot and I personally feel it's a mess to clean, and probably even more so camping.

My better half used to drink coffee but doesn't any more, so it was just me and my couple of cups! Heard about this on the Yahoo Fun Finder forum. I got it for the trailer, but I now use it in the house, too. I LOVE IT! Camping - you can heat your water gas, microwave, or campfire. Versatile, huh? It's $2.99 at the Melita store. And 1 paper filter will do both cups. (I tried 3 cups for 1 filter - it got too clogged).

Michelle

I find a French Press most satisfactory. The Bodum brand seems to be the most popular and is the one that I use. They come in a wide range of sizes and are available online at Amazon.com.

Nissan Thermos model at Amazon for $30 is awesome. There are prettier ones, but this one is well built and perfect for an RV. It's 32 ounces. I initially went with a smaller unit because I thought I wouldn't need the volume. It's always better to have extra!

I agree with the poster above.

While I was in the coffee business, I tried most types available.
I took a glass one camping and it broke. I also found the glass ones to have no insulating properties and the brew cools-off very quickly.

THIS is the one I decided on and have been using for 10 years. It is un-breakable and keeps the coffee hot for a long time.
And the link I provided is a company that will ship and offers the best price I could find for you.

I highly recommend this model over any other.

Since you say it's just for you, here is a drink right from the French Press mug:

thanks. I have also been looking at french presses, but was not impressed with the glass models. I was also dismayed at how small most are. When we make coffee, we make a full pot and will drink all of it each morning.

When camping with kids, un-breakable is ideal (since they do the dishes!).

We have camped in some campgrounds with out hookups, but generator time was not until 10 am - I cannot wait 4 hours to get my morning coffee!

If you want one that won't break, and it's for camping, then Coleman makes a sturdy Stainless Steel model.

You can find it at some Target locations and on the internet for less.
