If you got a, say 1-2" tear in your roof, and the ins company is paying to have the whole roof redone, plus labor, say for 4000.00. Do you have to have that repair done, or could you just have a professional patch job done, especially if your getting rid of the camper in less then 2 years. Other then camping, its under a 40x60 pole building all the time.

Let the insurance company do the work that way your warranty is still good. Even if you sell in two years next owner will pay more for warrantyed unit.

I am surprised an insurance company would pay to replace the whole roof for a 2 inch tear.

$1 of eternabond should fix it fine.

Not sure I'd want my roof replaced anyway. Seems like good chance for a dealer to screw something up.

States I have spent the night in my current rig, bought three years ago.

In Texas, the insurance company pays the repairing company directly. They claim it stops a lot of fraud.

I would not want a claim like that against my insurance unless I really needed it. Your loss experience is a factor for your future insurance premiums.

Yep, I wouldn't want a total roof replacement either for the same reasons. If it were mine, I would get some Dicor, lift up the torn area and fill it with the stuff. I'd then push the roof pieces flat and coat the exterior with Dicor. If you wanted a little extra insurance, you could put a piece of Eternabond tape over it.

As a side note, now that you have contacted your insurance company, they will probably charge you with a claim even if you do net have them do the work! Better check with them to see if your report to them counts as a claim.

As an adjuster I will tell you as soon as a claim is called in it is recorded as a claim regardless of the amount of loss on everything other then auto. When you call in it is recorded under the clue report. Ins companies take a bad rap lately b/c its always one sided to the homeowner point of view. A lot of people rate shop and jump from one company to the next each year to save a few dollars when they have a loss certain companies will fight to pay out The companies with higher standards and at time higher rates pay what is owed. I believe you are with a company that pays what is owed.

For a 2" tear I would not have even called the insurance company. I would just clean the roof real good around the tear and put a piece of Eternabond tape and forget about it forever .

They basically said, if I don't have it done, any future roof replacements, or internal damage would be covered, I can understand that, but like some, I really can't see a total roof replacement. As far as I can see, that roof probably was ripped, the first winter it sat outside, 05/06 year. I was wondering if its a fraud, if you don't have the total roof replacement done, but do what some of you have sugested. Thanks

This deal started last year, but I'm not too sure I made the first call, seems like the dealer said they would do the calling, probably need work, but even at that time, I did'nt think about a total replacement. Heck you can get a patch repair kit at walmart. What started this was I took it to have the fridge fixed, and noticed some water on the floor, I figured it was from the defrosting fridge, which it proabaly was from. He said he would check the roof out, and he put a dab of sealant on it. Next thing, he was talking to me about the repair.
