There has been many threads about solutions to issues with extensions under campers. I took some really good ideas from my fellow TC's and modified mine.
withthe original set up the stinger hung about 7" below the camper bumper and would certainly drag at any driveway...didn't even drive it that way! Camper is a Lance 1161. Additionally the stinger didn't stick out far enuf to clear all my boxes and probably would have interfered with the boat trailer.
So my soultion was to do a combo fitting at the 2.5" recver at the truck the strongest location. From the pics you can see that it has a 2.5' riser to get he stinger up almost 6". This clears the bottom of the camper and withthe bend in the stinger it now is 2.5" below the bumper and out far enuf as well.
To remove the sideways motion of any stinger I used some of my old Happijac TC tie downs with the spring loaded turn buckles, had to buy a new threaded rod at ACE. Had the guy that built the riser add some tabs to the hitch under the truck for the hook end and used the loops on the stinger for the other end. It doesn't move and what it does is only the compression of the springs in the turnbuckles.

It looks to me like it says 41" extension.
Oh well, I'm not seeing right I'm just getting old,but that's good,Tomorrow is my last day at work,I'm going to join the retired group. Now for some serious trips.
Tuna man...CONGRATS!!! Yep it says 41 but actually it is at the 48 hole and the step up insert puts it back another 8"...only hauling 3000# so it is not going to be an issue. I am anxious to try it, but will have to wait until I get the boat back. I was at the motor install location about 3 hours ago and they set the throttle handle and seat where i need it to be...more parts arrivre on Friday hopefully and I pick her up on Sat morning. This is going to be fun. Capt PJ
One more thing you could do. I have about the same setup with a 1161.Use a 48" extension. Where you have the side swag turnbuckles mounted, get 2 more and go vertical to the tow ball location in front of your tag. These, in tension, gives a lot of lift support to the extension. The higher you can mount them to the truck, the better
SSage, I have "thunk" on that very thing, knowing my principals of physics, the greater the angle the more support...AHHH! Two things pop right out: 1. there is not a ball mounting hole in front of the tag on the bumper. 2. the clearance from there to the bottom of the TC is not much...wouldn't want to snag it, as if there was a chance, loading or unloading. It is just not suitable for the set up. THX for the idea and your input is always appreciated. Capt PJ
I would be very concerned about the turnbuckle arrangement you have coming loose and the hardware falling onto the roadway while you are underway. No matter how tight you make the turnbuckles, they will get some slack. They always do. I would replace the hooks with eyes with hardware that can attach more securely and will not come off if you get some slack. I'm speaking from experience, as I've had them come loose in spite of getting them as tight as I thought I could with my 48" extension and Titan 2.5" receiver and also the Superhitch.

IF they are under tension due to the interanl springs and a lock wingnut is fastened withthe hooks going over the top, it would be hard for them to come loose. Therse are the same arrangements used in the TC tie down system. The spring actions allows some shifting but has eliminated the slap and quick jerking. I will keep my eye on them just as I do with the tiedowns. Every stop a walk around, looky touchy! THX Capt PJ
