I've gone the last 4 or 5 years, and what a change this year. I don't think their was a half dozen dealers there....and only two of them had motorhomes.......I would estimate that it was a quarter of the size of past shows......and the attendance was nil. Their were only about 40 cars in the parking lot.....luckily their was no charge for parking or entering the show when I was there......because I would have been upset if I had paid $10 to park and another $6-8 for entering the show as in years past. I only saw one vedor that was selling mods for diesel trucks. It was a real eye opener to see what has happened to the industry and the economy. The only new models there were a couple of Damons and a few Tiffins. I sure hope the latest trend in the Stock Market is an indictor that our economy is turning the corner.

Your area of the county isn't the only one showing these kinds of shows! Our local dealer told us that they had cut their "shows" to half of what normally would be attended....staying closer to home. And, instead of 6-8 RVs, they will bring 1-2 coaches this time.

I imagine it's the same all over the place....I've read the same things on many links.

I know this is not the Sacramento show, but Camping World in San Marcos Ca (Northern San Diego area) is having a big show on April 11th. The Camping World party show is actually an off-road desert racing show at Camping Worlds RV center. Camping World is going to be having huge sales on RV's, Toyhauler trailers and sales through out their parts store. Last week when we were there they had well over 100 RV's on there lot.

From what I was told and from what the flyer said they will be doing a blowout sale on a few selected Motorhomes and trailers. They were calling it a "racers special" for that day only. There were a few items in there store that I was going to pick up, but it was suggested that if I could wait until April 11th that many of these items in the store would also be on special.

My wife and I bought out motorhome from them last October and we did get a very good deal. We looked for quite awhile and they had the best deal. But I am a little afraid to see what they might be selling them for on that date. I figured we would go April 11th and see if we can get what we wanted in the parts store on sale. I would not mined checking out the racing buggy's and trucks they are going to have on display there too. We are desert people so it should be a good time. I guess they will be having vendors and raffles going all day too.

I went Thurs. also. Got stuck with that @#$% parking fee, but only $3 to get in. I expected it to be smaller this year due to the many big dealer closings in the area, but not that much! Was surprised to see that De Martini was not there as they have been there in past years with plenty of class A's. The only good thing was that Happy Daze was there, with a selection of most if not all of the Tiffins.

We attended a smaller RV show last month in Springfield, Mo. While there we spoke to the sales manager from a dealer in Carthage that we have visited several times over the past few years. He was not happy to be there but felt he needed to since his competition was there. He said after all was said and done (fees, wages, transporting the many units) his 4 day show would cost the dealership 20K.

We went on a Friday, attendance was light. Last week we ran into him at the dealership and he said they sold ZERO units. The dealership parked next to them said they sold 8 units, but salespeople there told him they didn't know of selling a single unit. Camping World also said they sold out all their show inventory....but that was a suspect statement according to my contact. A lot of disinformation being passed around it seems!

So I agree, things have changed, and hopefully some of these companies survive to support our dream!

Anyone who has ever worked in sales knows you always tell your competition that your sales are good. At least better than theirs!

The only folks that salesmen "fib" to more than customers is other salespeople!

Hey,
Wait a minute. There is a thread titled, a little bit of good news, in which a sales person from Giant RV told the Santa Cruz Sentinel that business is picking up and is looking promising. Someone must be telling a fib because we all know that smaller town newspapers are never wrong.

The Tampa show this past January was a zoo. Crowds were thick and dealers were plentiful. We went opening day and returned the next day because there was not enough time to see it all in one day. We went to Lazydays toward the end of January and witnessed their sales recorded approaching 700 for the month.

Lazydays probably has more financing options then many other dealers out there so that they can continue to sell.

Camping World (aka Affinity Group) has been down rated and in the financial news they were given only about a 45% chance of survival now.

But on the other side of the card, New York State Campgrounds are having a bonus year in reservations. So someone is still camping.
