I posted about 2 weeks ago that we had a blowout on our TT while traveling between 60-70 mph. Many forum members correctly reminded me of the 65 mph rating on TT tires. When arrived home yesterday from a 3 day trip my DW noticed that another of the original tires looked like is was ready to go. The belt was sperating from the rest of the tire. This time around I kept the mph at 62. At least we made it all the way home and now my question is what brand to replace them with. I just got a price of $84 per tire insatlled for Carlisle (spelling?) Tires. Are these any good? Thinking aboutr Goodyer Marathons if I can find a set of 4 locally before next weekend when we take another trip.

What brand tire does your Jayco have on it now ? Our '05 27BH had Maxxis brand tires. We had a slice on one of the Maxxis tires(possible curb hit )and bought two Goodyears thru Sams Club as they were the lowest price. They still had to order them though.

We have Goodyear Marathons (China) on our new Eagle.

we had ST tire problems years ago, mostly with Carlisle, even when the national speed limit was 55 mph.

I wouldn't put Carlisle ST tire on any trailer thats going to be on the road at any speed. We have a few posters that like Carlisles but do a search on Carlisle ST for other RVers bad experiences. Or do a google on Carlisle ST tires and see the same problems from other trailer types (non RVs/boaters/horse folks/rodeo/dog show/etc).

It helps if you give your present tire size/load range/type and the trailers GVWR for a good trailer tire recommendation.

There are thousands of post on tires. The gneeral concesuis is stay away from china made tires if possible. Most say the Maxis is a pretty good tire.

You might consider changing to LT tires. They don't have the speed limit and in most cases last longer than ST tires. Many RV manufacturers are putting them on new units.

Why I went to LT tires with a 99mph speed rating instead of 65mph rated ST tires.. I'd hate driving 60 mph (allowing safety margin)because I only had 65mph rated tires. I'd be run over by every truck on the highway. With the LT's I can confidently run 65-70 without a second thought. I could even run over 70 but my fuel tank wouldn't be big enough to make it between filling stations if I did..

just because you were going 62 mph this time, how many times and how long did you run them above 65 mph? Heat damage can show up later and cause a blow out at a slower speed.

Just a note to take another point of view. What was the PSI in your tires on your trip and how heavy is your trailer with all your belongings in it. You can blame the blow out on the tires but pressing your luck on your TT weight and not having adequate pressure in your tires can also lead to blow outs. All three (tire quality, weight of trailer and PSI in the tire) are all atributes that could individually lead to tire issues. Just a thought, not second guessing you or trying to start something .

Maxxis, Denman or LT. What size and pressure? What is the wheel rating?
