I would have done what tallyo suggested a long time ago. For me it would help to find out if and where the leak is, then it would be hard for someone to bamboozle you.

Spray soapy water around the valve to make sure then return to the dealer for repairs...........

If that doent work, run the flame of a lighter along the area and the leak will be easy to see.

Ah, are you telling him that he should check for leaking propane with an open flame NOT!!!

Use some kids bubble solution and slather it on with a soft bristle artist brush...

NEVER check for a gas leak with an open flame!!

Les, I actually know a guy who checked for a natural gas leak under his house with a lighter. He lived to tell about it but was a little crispy and had no hair left. Wow, now thats crazy stuff. True story.

Tongue-in-cheek comment.
NO, don't check with flames.
I was SURE that you guys would be along to point out why it was a bad idea.

What you need to see is the GAS COMPANY guy come and check with a lighter for leaks.
(actually happened)
That will truly blow your mind.

That happened to me once on my Westfalia. I pulled the valve stem out and quickly repacked it. This was going on while the propane was shooting out the valve hole. I reassembled it and it never leaked again. I'm not sure if the tank was over-filled or the valve needed repacking. If I had to do it again, I would bled off some fuel first to see if it's overfilled.

Sometimes when turning the valve off & on a little gas will come out until its either all the way off or all the way on.The gas Smell will last quite a while even if there isn't any gas leaking.Just check it with some dish soap & water in a spray bottle. It could be the smell thats scaring you-thats what happened to me.The smell can last a day or so !!

I was just going to ask about a small leak that occurs when opening the tank valve. I noticed that if I get it in just the right spot, partially open, it will have a small continuous leak. Should the valve be opened up all the way, tightly, each time to avoid any leaks? Is this how they are designed? I was going to look into this more, but maybe they just need to be opened all the way.

Thanks.

I was told by a fellow with a license to pump propane that the valves are designed to be fully open or fully closed only. Not sure how accurate that info is but is the way I've always done it.

Still I think it's highly unadvisable to joke around with something this serious and potentially hazardous.
