what kind do you have and do you like it? we just got a TomTom at a good price and it seems okay, just used it locally to try it out. We'll be ready to travel, when the time comes!! He's working hard at it, and ready for the cabinets, getting some prices now, Lowe's was $9k and I said no way! So he's checking with a friend who makes cabinets and he hasn't gotten a price yet, but he thinks it will be about half that amount. Sounds more the price that I had in mind.

We may not have it all together, but together we have it all! (almost)

I use a map and believe it or not manage to get to where I am going. Tried my son's GPS and found that it does not always give the best route. Perhaps when I get tired of planning each day of our trips, along with what we will be seeing and doing I'll break down and get a GPS device.

Use it every day and wont leave home with out it. In my occupation its a vital tool. By the way, maps aren't always accurate either, if you can find a place to buy one.

I cannot imagine not using a gps. It's like a cell phone versus a land line.

When I'm traveling with my FW behind me, I always check the map for the best way or the way I want to go and use the GPS as a back-up. Also it's nice to know where you are in case we break down and need someone to find us on a long streach of road. Or where the next gas station is. Or, Or, Or......

We have the Garmin 2620, a little old but works well for us. I particularly like the route planning software. I also find the GPS unit useful in terms of alerting which lane to be in when exiting an interstate. I also like to be able to have a quick and easy fix on how far we have to go to various points. There is an abundance of other information available from the GPS unit but in our case books like "Next Exit" and our trusty FMCA Atlas are aces for finding flying J's and rest stops.

There is also some novelty uses for the GPS such as knowing what the elevation is at any given point along the route...

For us the GPS unit does not eliminate the use of maps since we do keep them handy and double check...

I have a Garmin GPS receiver $49 @ NewEgg.com) that I use with my Dell Inspiron Mini 9 laptop and MS streets and trips or the Garmin Map software as I can switch back and forth. I actually prefer the MS S&T. This way I have my GPS and very portable laptop for traveling. My laptop is bluetooth enabled and wireless so I can use my Blackberry as a modem if I need to.

This combo works as good as the GPS in my Accord or my wife's Magellan.

I have used a Garmin 330-C for three years, cost now is under a hundred. Just upgraded the mapping for $69.00 and could have bought a new one but Lola is a old friend now. The maps are good but that is oil dripping on the roads and not horse dung.
