I have too start thinking about getting ready for this season. When you grease the EZ lube bearings in the fifth wheel, how do you know if you have enough grease or when you have overgreased? last year I just pumped about 4 pumps into each wheel.Have put on about 6000 miles since with no problems.

I pump slowly and gently by hand until I see clean grease flowing out all the way around.

Every three years I disassemble to inspect the bearing and race. In that case I hand pack.

There is a theory around here that using a pressure grease gun sometimes causes the seals to fail.

Not if you limit it to 1-2 pumps per year.

Do what feels good, but normally w/ ezlube, or BBs, there is no need to ever disassemble the hub. (no matter what the book says to cover their butts)

Give the wheel 1-2 pumps of grease.
Then jack up each wheel, spin it. If it is noisy, then yes, you better pull the hub,...see whats goin on.

I did as said above on last TT. Worked great for 7 years. Still doing great when sold, never any grease on brakes. Just pump slow and DO NOT use an air grease gun.

My first 5er w/ezlube got grease on the brakes before it was out of the 1 yr warranty so I never trusted them. My dealer said the same thing and Dexter warranteed a complete brake job so I hand pack. Craig

I would recommend you read MY comments in THIS POST!

Pumping grease in, it HAS to go somewhere... Just where do you think some of it will end up? INSIDE on your brakes!

I am not an expert on the EZ Lube axles but have been around the block when it comes to maintaining my own vehicles and trailers. I would never consider blindly pumping grease into a hub, you are begging for trouble down the road.

Check out my post just prior to this on the Dexter EZ-lube system maintenance by searching my posts.

There are a lot of misconceptions on how this system is supposed to work by a lot of folks that have never had it so be careful who you believe and who you discard as being uninformed.

Please read my rebuttal to a supposed "informed" EZ-Lube user HERE which includes direct links to DEXTER'S OWN DOCUMENTATION which is not here say from a user.
