Is it normal to have rust underneath a brand new trailer? The propane lines and other metal axles are riddled with a brown rust like coating. I am wondering if this is normal or not.

If its steel it will rust. Every spring I wire brush and then spray paint the under side that is exposed. What always got me is how bad the gas line looks.

if it's exposed metal there's no protection. If it's painted it's very thin cheap paint. I re did mine with rustoleum. Much more durable.

mine was delivered to the dealer when salt was on the roads. It was rusty upon delivery. It was the only 30BHS left at the dealer with the "fall Promo Pack" with the heated and enclosed underbelly so I took it as is I chose to do it myself as I didn't trust someone else with a rattlecan under my rig. it's fine now.

Think they must store the black pipe outside because mine was rusted when it came new also. Although mine was a year old when I bought it sat on the lot 6 months at dealer. I don't think we have to worry about it rusting out because it is a some fairly heavy gausge pipe. But it is a good idea to give her a shot of rustoleum I think I'll be under mine this summer when the snow melts here in Mi.

Mine was built in March of 08 and I purchased it in June of 08. Even the safety chains had rust. But I liked the TT and price so purchased the TT. I have cleaned up the frame rust and sprayed the frame with bed liner spray. So far no problems.

It is never a good idea to apply a protective coating over rust. A better solution is to apply Ospho(the active ingredient is Phosphoric acid)to the rusted areas and let dry overnight. This converts the rust from ferrous iron to iron phosphate which is a rust-retarding paintable surface. When dry the rusted areas can be coated with Rustoleum(or other protective coating)
I bought a gallon of Ospho years ago at Sherwin Williams but, more recently, bought a quart of Jasco Prep and Primer at Lowes. Same thing as Ospho-the main active ingredient is Phosphoric acid.
Some people will advocate using Naval Jelly buy this product only removes rust and does not convert the rust into a protective coating.

POR-15 is the way to go. Very expensive, but you will only need to paint your frame once.
