Forgive me for this noobie question - but should I be greasing my hitch ball? If so, how often?

I grease ours before each hook-up using white lithium grease. A very light coat over the top half of the ball. When we get to the CG I put a plastic ball cover over the ball and take the mount off , storing it in the front pass thru compartment. When we get home I wipe the ball off and store the mount again in the front storage compartment. The ball cover gets wiped out so as to not collect dirt and grit.

Reese makes a good ball grease. I use a piece of paper towel and apply everytime we hookup to go camping...usually there is still a good covering after a weekend so i do not apply before coming home.

The only hitch parts that move that you do NOT grease is the Friction pads (if you have a friction based anti sway). Metal to metal usually means grease it.

Also, every once in a while, shoot some WD40 or other grease cutter up into the hitch-ball socket on the trailer, then rince out the grit.
