RangerDave, thank you for recommending this place! I talked to Larry Walker himself and he explained the difference in more detail about the 8r's and 225's, he said he would be happy to look over the motorhome and check to make sure the 225's would not rub against the suspension and would be glad to walk through the PSI ratings with us after the tires were put on. He quoted me $1687 "out the door" with 8R Toyo's and the same for 225 Kumho's (which he admitted had less of a road life than Toyo's, but that dry rot would likely hit before road wear)and was exactly what I was looking for in a tire dealer--He was very friendly and welcoming and willing to share the information I needed without making me feel stupid! I told him I was recommended by another RV'er and he was very thankful for the word of mouth. And so am I!

He is a small shop that not only does the odd/special stuff but can take care of most any passenger tire issue. They are really good people there, hard to come across them now-adays. They will take care of you.

Glad I could help.

In my opinion there's not a good reason for you to try to put different size tires on your motorhome. Cooper makes a very good 8R19.5 tire. I had 6 new ones put on about 2 years ago for just a bit over $1200. Many miles down the road, and I like them very much.

Thank you! I agree, with them being the same price, I don't know why I would want the headache of it possibly rubbing wrong on the suspension, Mr. Walker mentioned that most people do it for the clearance, as it makes your RV shorter, but it was nominal. I heard that 225's would help stability issues, but he also told be that the benefit was small if any, most of stability issues had to do with balancing correctly. So I think I will stick with the Toyo's as I have heard good things about them. Thanks to all of you for your great advice, I will be back for more!

I paid $125 a tire for Dynatrac all steel 8R19.5's about 2 years ago. If I were to do it over, I would probably go with 225/70/19.5's. But I need the extra height of the 8R's to get out of my driveway

Are you talking of the Toyo's? Why not?

About 2 months ago I had 6 new (all less than 6 months on date code)8r19.5 Dynatrac tires installed. They ride great and I know others that have had them on for quite a while and are happy with them. My out the door price for all 6 was $887.00. This included balancing, mounting, disposal of old tires and all taxes. Since I am in NC I can not recommend a dealer but you should be able to find them in Texas.

Best of luck to you and yours, Ed

Holy crap, $887? Maybe I am asking the wrong questions of the places I am calling... I have called 5 and all of them except one (referenced above) quoted me well over $2000...Perhaps I should say "give me the cheapest tires you go, that will keep me and mine safe"?
