we'l be headed south in mid May, traveling Tue or Wed or Thurs. I wish I knew it if was to be day or night travel. Should be stay on I95, or should we take I295? Or does it depend on rush hour? thanks

Around 7-9am and 3-630 pm, go the I295 route. All other times, no traffic issues. Never really backs up unless there is an accident. Watch the area just after Ashland, a little crazy there regardless of route.

I used to go I-295 since the speed limits were so "silly" on I-95. they have since raised the limits on I-95 and are only 55 in two areas, right downtown and around exit 54? so now I go straight thru town on 95.
As said, south of Ashland (exit 104???) can get bogged down for some reason. and unless there is a wreck, shouldn't be a big issue anywhere. I would just put it in the center lane, stay on I-95 and be a little careful right down town as it gets a little wiggly.
if you go I-295, and are continuing on I-95, no problem, if you are connecting to I-85 you have a little "adjusting" to do.

According to Google directions, Rte 295 is 2.6 miles longer than Rte 95. We've done both, and Rte 295 is rural and can be almost void of all traffic, while Rte 95 does go through the city. Hope this help you make your decision. Camp on!

295 has less traffic, is longer and the road is rougher. lots of pot holes (most have been poorly repaired) and uneven road surfaces. 95 has more traffic. used 95 south bound and 295 north bound last week and used 295 both ways in November. if it's not rush hour I'd use 95.

if I think of it, I get on the CB and ask oncoming trucks if there is a problem on I-95 thru town.

We go thru the Richmond area frequently. If I'm in the motorhome I use 295. Much less stressful for me. If I'm in the truck I go straight thru.
