On several occassions I have passed RVs on the side of the road. I always wondered if they needed help or were just waiting for road service to show up. Finally, one day while I was in the Jeep I turned around and went back to see if I could be of assistance and found out the folks had just stopped by the side of the road to eat lunch.
So, how do you know if you should turn around and try to help or just keep going down the road?

I'd say the universal sign of distress when broken down is an open hood or engine compartment. That and an angry women beating her husband with a broom!

Chris,
This reminds me of a story about when I was on a motorcycle vacation trip a few years ago. I passed another bike couple who were on the side of the road. The gal was holding up a sign that read "Out Of Gas." Because I always have a gallon of gas in the motorcycle, I pulled off and took it back to them. They were so releived I could do that.
The point being that because they had the sense to do the sign and hold it up, they got what they needed in a very short period of time. If it were me and I had to depend on a good heart to stop for me, I might try doing the same thing.
Otherwise, flashers and standing off the side of the road looking like I needed help would be something.

You won't know unless they put out reflectors, cones or some other way of comunicating a problem. In most cases there is very little you can do other then supplie a cell phone...

I am one or the ones that can been seen on the side of the road on occasion. Generally, it is only a Lasix emergency. I just get as far off the road as possible, and turn on the flashers.

I can't believe that some fool would stop along side the road just to eat lunch. On second thought, I believe it.

Well a couple years back I was chasing some white tail deer into the bush getting a photo or 3 and a very nice gentleman stopped to make sure all was well. My DW simply told him her loving husband was off chasing some stupid deer and all was well
I'm glad he stopped because we were in the middle of nowhere and if we were truly stuck we'd be in big trouble if nobody stopped!

In the afternoon January 6, I had my right front tire blow out on my Class A on Route 95 south of Jacksonville Florida, near Palm Coast. We had the flashers on and had the triangles out. We sat for over 2 hours; nobody, including cops stopped! Thank God for cell phones, I was able to call for road service myself!
