Hello to all,
Been towing now for 19 years and never had a tire failure until now.
I am religious about keeping my tire pressures at correct settings during trips and inspecting them prior to and during the trip. All of my onboard tanks were empty, so no additional weight was being towed.
My 2006 EFS290 5'er Cougar has been in service now for 3 years and has less than 6,000 miles on the subject tires.
On the day the tire failed I had just been on the road for approx. one hour, running 60 MPH, when I noticed out the left rear view mirror the rear tire on the trailer "explode". The tire tread came completly separated and ripped through the wheel well and onto the interstate.
The tire did not go flat immediately though. I managed to move to a safe area to change out the tire.
I have contacted Tire Co.(Distributor of Mission tires) and they have aggreed to replace the failed tire. When I told the lady that I also feel very uneasy about the other tires on the trailer she asked me if the other tires have any defects that could be seen. I told her that I could see considerable cracking in the side walls on all of the tires and might be a condition for premature failure. She agreed to replace all 4 of the tires. The tires are to be sent to my home address this week by UPS.
They also have agreed to repair the damage to the trailer wheel well as well. The do require 3 estimates and the job goes to the low bidder. When the new tires are mounted the damaged/suspected tires are to be UPS back to them.
At this time I do not know what the brand of replacement tires will be. If these tires are made in China I will not mount them on my rig due to quality issues I have heard from others concerning CHINA tires.
I have completed their claim forms and attached pictures as instructed. Now waiting to get 3 estimates on the repair of the trailer wheel well.
If others have had this same problem please let me know if I need to do anything else to make sure this has a good outcome.
Happy Camping,

TireCo is a good company that will work with you. Only problem is I would take the tires they send you and put them on a lite duty trailer, that's what I did. I then replaced my tires with B F Goodrich Commercial TA's size LT225/75R/16E. Since TireCo was such a good company to work with I bought new aluminum 16 inch wheels from them. The size I told you are only one inch taller than your ST225/75R/15D rated tires. That will make them one/half inch closer to your fender wells. They should fit fine, but measure to make sure. I had 5 of the Mission tires to fail before I did the tire change. I have had no more tire problems since.

Good to hear that you were able to pull over safely. Glad Mission is replacing tires and repairing damage but I feel the same way you do about putting the new Mission tires on your 5er.

Here is a picture of a failed Mission Chinese tire that was taken off before it came apart. About ten more miles down the road and I might have had to have fender well repair. It's still got 65 psi in it. You can see the bulge in the tread. Hope this helps.

I had a 2007 Mountaineer fiver that had a slow leak in one of the tires (all were Missions). When I went to have the tire repaired, the tire dealer noted that the tire had sidewall bulging as did another tire. He circled the bulges and allowed me to see and feel them as well. The tires had less than 4 thousand miles on them.
I contacted Tireco and they agreed to replace the three other tires, including the spare, and reimburse me for the two that I had replaced immediately since the dealer recommended not driving further on them.
When Tireco received the two returned tires, however, they evaluated them in their "testing lab" and almost two months later related to me that they could find no bulges. They allowed me to keep the three other tires they had replaced but would not reimburse for the two tires that were the obvious failures!??
Anyway, they didn't replace with Missions, but it was with another brand that was also made in China and had the exact same tread pattern. I no longer own the fiver so I don't know how those tires held up.

We have had all 5 of our Mission tires replaced on our late 2006 Montan 3400RL by TireCo. We noticed the first problem at about 9,000 miles with the right front tire showing excessive wear on the outer edge. Local tire dealers described the problem as trad separation. Put on the spare. 1600 miles later the left front tire exhibited an identical problem only on the inside edge. Caught these problems before they blew out. TireCO sent us 5 new replacement tires, FreeStars, and I removed the Missions and mounted the FreeStars at my expense. Now have about 2000 miles on the FreeStars w/o a problem so far. The FreeStars are Chinese tires also possibly made by the same factory that made the Missions. However, I am gambling that they now know how to make the tires properly. I just cannot beleive that they have gone through all the expense of replacing the Missions w/o making significant changes in how they make tires or they would be out of business. I may be foolish but it is my story and gamble and I'm sticking to it! :-) At least for now. We have had so many other major problems with our Montana 3400RL, believe it or not, the tire issues have been secondary. If we have identical problems on the FreeStars I will take full legal recourse with both Keystone and TireCo. I'm not paying an additional $1000 for good tires that I should have received to begin with. Keystone is responsible for selecting bad tires but have not been held accountable. Yet!..... However, they try to pass all the blame to TireCo which is passing the buck.

Are there any date codes or other #'s that will tell if you have a set of bad Mission tires or are they all junk ? I have them on my 20' Haulmark enclosed car trailer.

We just had the Missions replaced on our trailer that had less than 5k miles on them. Two had started to come apart at the tread. I went with BFG Commercial LT tires. I feel much less stressed while towing now.

Then again... We put @12K hard mles on pur OEM mission tires and had no problems at all.We did replace them with Coopers as 12K miles are enough on any OEM tire. I have seen many falures on the Missions tires as well as other Brands..Why do some fail and many others never do.
