Our 2006 Cedar Creek came with Merritt tires made in USA. We had just shy of 40k miles on them. They were showing some bulges on the side wall. There was some signs of separation starting on the inside. Glad we changed them before our trip to Texas next month.

We got the Michelin XPS Rib LT235/85R16E. They were $252.95 each + mounting balancing, filled with Nitrogen (80 psi) plus tax and a fee to get rid of the old tires it was a little over $1200. We bought them at the Ford dealer we got the truck from. They use a spin balance machine.

The old tires were not balanced. I sure could feel the difference with the new balanced tires.

I just put new tires on my 5er toyhauler. I put Goodyear Marathons ST225/75R/15. I noticed a tremendous difference when towing it for the first time after the old tires. I towed it 1300 miles this last trip with no problems.

No doubt the Michelins are good tires, but $1200 for four tires? Ouch! I am installing Uniroyals, same size, American made, for less than half the price, installed and balanced. Though filled with the same stuff I breath. I think the Uniroyals are produced by Michelin much like BFGoodrich. 100% Nitrogen is good if you are touching down at 120+mph, but I rarely tow over 65mph.

What would be the advantage of using nitrogen in the tires?
I normally pull my 5er at 60-65... have had almost no problems with regular air... but I do see lots of people using nitrogen.
So I wonder why?
