Thanks to a friendly campgroud neighbor, we narrowly avoided having our fiver flooded on the river/creek lot we've owned for less than a year. National Weather Service had posted a flood watch for the area, and we planned on driving out to the campground to check on it or calling a friend who has a lot there too that afternoon. Just before lunch, the campground neigbor called and said the water was already under the hitch! We got there just in time. Had to back out through nearly a foot of water, and thank goodness for four-wheel drive.
Tried to pay it forward by moving moving out a trailer on the lot just down the road, but it was already too deep.
Now we know how fast the water can rise, we hopefully won't make that mistake again. And I sure owe my campground neighbor a beer!
Great to hear you didn't get submerged! We have camped several times on the Cheat River in WVa and know exactly why it is so named. We managed to beat the river rise, others were not so lucky. On our first trip there, many years ago, I pulled our poptop out first, then hooked my old original VW bug to a neighbor's rig - they said it couldn't be done! I pilled his camper off blocks, and dragged his sewer hose along behind but did get him to drier land.
Four wheel drive is great when you really need it!
Happy trails to ya.
