I'm looking for information from anyone who has taken the train from Williams to the Grand Canyon. What time do the trains depart? What I'm really trying to figure out is how long you have at the Canyon. I don't know if they don't have it on their website or if I'm just not looking in the right place, but I cannot figure that out. We have reservations at the Xanterra campground, but DH has decided he wants to pull a stacker trailer (to use for a later part of our trip) and I don't think it'll fit at the Trailer Village, so I'm looking for alternatives.

This schedule shows it all http://www.thetrain.com/schedule/

If you stay at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park you can get a package deal you may want to check it out.

We moved!! No more nasty neighbors, no more rotten parking. I am saving this picture just to remind myself how bad it was.

We did the trip in February. Left the trailer in Lake Havasu and took advantage of their package with hotel room, food and dog kennel. Didn't want to chance the weather then with the rig...
You get a little more than 3 hours at the rim before you have to catch the train. We went "first class" and it included snacks.. So we didn't take the time for lunch... It was nice to have someone else drive - but if I were to do it again, I'd book an overnight room at the rim and use the train to get there and back. You get more time then...
Be ready with "tip" funds. There's a train robbery and roaming guitar playing cowboys who work for tips..

We used the train 2 years ago. I think we were there only 4 hours. If you want more time you can get a hotel room and come back on the train the next day.

When we took it the turnaround was three hours which just happens to be the average length of time a tourist spends at the south rim.
Unless you are hiking, three hours is enough.

3 hours is what we spent at the canyon. After an hour for lunch it wasn’t enough. The ride was no big deal. Not scenic. I would suggest if you have a vehicle available that you stay at the park at the rail road station and drive into the park from there. Takes about an hour there and an hour back but you can leave earlier in the morning and stay later than the train. Saves you a little money too.
