We were at a party the other night and met a person who works for DuPage County Forest Preserve. She mentioned that they have a campground there. I was surprised to learn this as I have never seen it mentioned here on these boards.
Yep. I seen the site about a month ago. it`s only about 15 miles from me. I`de like to check it out maybe for a quick weekend. looks nice from some of the pics I`ve seen of it.

A bad day of camping is
better than a good day at work!
Yep, it's in my neck of the woods, only about 15 mins away - 5 mins from work. I believe it is tents only and weekends only. Probably other restrictions - not sure - I didn't even look at the website...
It's a great forest preserve but it's still in the 'burbs' for me - I like to get away a bit more...
EDIT: Hmmm...looks like they now allow rv's, nice little place for some hiking, biking, fishing. Pretty cool!

The problem is I dont think you can make reservations. I also dont think you can come and go after dusk. Also no alchohol if that matters to you. I'd call and get all the rules before i'd stay there.

I's real close to me too! We also like to get away a little further.
I posted mainly for the benefit for the tons of posts we get from people looking for something close to Chicago.
I do believe they take reservations. It is more money than the State Parks, but also much close to the city.

Let us know how it is, OK? We get so many people looking for places to camp near the city, and we don't have much to recommend because most of the places are very far away.
OK. I was thinking we were talking about the campground at the Kane County Forest preserve in Elgin.
Yes the Blackwell Forest Preserve campground has electric, not sure about water. and last I heard it was only open on the weekends.
Here is the link to Paul Wolff Campground. it is located in Elgin IL. it`s close to the tollway. I believe it opened in 03?

Hickory Hollow in Utica, Timberlake Resort in Mt. Carroll - both private campgrounds IMHO the nicest in northern IL. A new campground in progress - Cabin Fever in Victoria, IL near Kewanee. Very nice large sites right on a small stocked lake. No shower house.
Favorite State Parks - Mississipppi Palisades SP - Savanna, IL
Rock Cut SP in Rockford, Illini SP in Marseilles, Weldon Springs SP in Clinton, IL (we like the lake here because we catch fish)
