Last camping trip there was a newer DP in our group. It had an inverter generator built in. You could barely hear it running and it was a pleasant sound. I have been searching to see if there are gas ones available for RVs but haven't found one. At least, Onan doesn't have one. If there is one, please point me.
I know about the portable Hondas and Yamahas, but I am looking for a replacement for the built in.
After that camping trip, our genset seems noisy.
Thanks!

Vibration dampening, foam rubber sound insulation, and a better muffler can do wonders. Probably a lot cheaper, too.

The 8KW diesel generator on our MH is quieter than our 4KW "microquiet" generator was on our last mh. Just for grins I set my Honda 1000W generator next to the exhaust of the 8KW unit and I swear the diesel was just as quiet if not more. I have no idea how they do it. Maybe the diesel is turning much slower rpms. The most noise from it is the intake air noise.

That sounds like the one, actually I think the DP was an Endeavor. They were 5 feet from my RV and it took me a while to figure out what that noise was. Couldn't believe it was their generator.
Maybe you can't get one like that in a gas unit yet. But, it seems like it would be easier to make a gas engine quiet.

I had an Onan 4000 micro quiet in my Bigfoot class C. I found it very noisy also. I too have been up close to high end class A's with a diesel genset that was super quiet. I finally yanked it out and replace it with a modified honda 3000. Here is a link to my thread over in the Class C forum.

It costs a lot of money to design and manufacture a generator that has to be super quiet. The market for the portables like the EU Honda and some others is a hundred times or more larger than the market for a built-in. For me the ultimate would be a inverter version of the Honda EV series. I had one and it was a good generator with a water cooled engine but it ran at a constant 3750 rpm and it was noisy.

Was it the Endeavor in my picture? Just kidding. But the generator is incredibly quiet.

Wow! Nice installation. I suppose this could be a solution for me. Probably cheaper than a built-in if it exists.

It looked exactly like yours. If you look like George Lopez, tell a lot of jokes and you own a sand-rail upolstery shop, then it was you! I forgot the guys name though....it wasn't George.

DPs have watercooled diesel generators. Generally, watercooled internal combustion engines are quieter than aircooled engines no matter what they power. Water jackets generally insulate sound better than air cooled cylinders with fins, like early VW Beetles vs later ones, or water cooled bikes vs air cooled bikes.
