The children will love it at just about any age. Personally I would say that the ideal age would about 5 to 7. At this age you won't have to carry them. They will not wear out quite so quickly and they will be much more familiar with the cute little characters.
You could actually just plan on taking them every other year from the age of 5 until they are about 65. They will never get really tired of it. That way it would give you at least a year in between so that you can catch your breath and rest your feet. ha

Hope that you all have a really great time. Take a good digital camera. These will be some really special and memorable moments that you will not be able to ever replace.

Enjoy the children while they are young. They grow up so darned fast and will outgrow you before you realize it.

We bought a annual pass to DisneyLAND when my daughters were 3 and 5 when we moved to California and true, the girls enjoyed their times down there but could become overwhelmed by the crowds, waiting times, and ride closures.

Just a couple of months ago, we got a chance to sneak in for a 3 day visit and I saw a marked differance in my daughters attitude being 2 years older. At 5 and 7, they really seemed to get "more" out of the experiance.

We took our kids to Disney World when they were 2 and 3 and then again last year at 9-10. I think they got so much more out of it when they were older. If I were to do it again I would have waited till they were older. One thing to keep in mind when going is the time of year. The fist time we went in June. WOW, was it hot and sticky. Last year we went in late April. Much nicer.

It's funny this tread came up. My kids are at Disneyland today. (the kids are off track from school) My wife and I took them on Wednesday and today they are going with their freinds. I guess they just can't get enough of that place.

good luck and enjoy your visit.

If it's a once in a lifetime trip, i.e., you're not taking them back later, as they get older, then I'd wait until they are at least 5.

We took our kids for the first time when they were 1 & 2, but we knew we'd be back on a somewhat regular basis. I miss those years when we could go when school age kids are actually in school. (do this, don't go when schools are out, and not just your area, consider other states, etc) Disneyland is much closer to us, so most of our trips were there, not Disneyworld, but the same guidelines apply.

Will kids that young be able to enjoy all of what the park has to offer? Nope. Doesn't mean they won't have a wonderful time. There are aspects of the park that older kids don't care about, that absolutely enchant little ones.

There are downsides. They don't last long, so expect to have to retreat back to where you're staying by lunch time for downtime. Then bring them back when they're ready again. Do get to the park right when it opens, to minimize waits in lines. Once the lines do lengthen, explore the non ride aspects of the park. You will need a stroller, especially if they aren't potty trained.

I've found the Disneyland/World experience with you children/grandchildren evolves as the go from 2 to 13. Each age has it's magic. Sadly, by the time they can go on all the rides with you, it isn't long before they don't want to go on them WITH you. :-)

We took our grandkids when one was 5 yrs and one was 2 yrs. Now about 5 yrs later, the youngest only remembers being scared by Goofy at a character breakfast. The older one still remembers most of it.
This year we took them again, now 10, 7, and 5 (a later addition). They all had a great time and I think they will all remember it.
That was our 4th trip. Our first trip we took our 2 kids when they were about 13 and 11. My wife and I enjoyed it so much, we went back 2 yrs later by ourselves so we could do what we wanted to do instead of having to chaperone them.

I would wait until the youngest is at least six or seven, if possible.

I just went with a 2 year old and 5 year old. The double stroller was a must.

The 5 year old got more out of it, but the 2 year old (3 next month) loved meeting the characters and riding some of the rides.

We waited until our youngest was five as we, too, weren't likely to go a second time. He and his older sister loved it, and both remain Disney 'fanatics' to this day. Oh! And we ended up going back year after year. Every March Break for decades! My husband and I still go as often as we can. (Three times since December and easily over fifty times since that first trip.) Our youngest is now 35; he and his wife have a Disney timeshare and go at least once a year. Their children have been going since infancy, particularly enjoying it probably since age two? I'd wait until the youngest is that age anyway. Beware of scary rides that may frighten the youngest. Disney has warning signs on any of the rides that are 'iffy' that way.

First trip girls where 7 and 9, next trip girls where 5, 15 and 17, next trip girls where 8, 18 and nephews where 15 and 17, next trip daughter was 10, next trip daughter was 13, next trip she will be 16 and the next planned trip girls will be 17, 27, 29 while the grand children will be 5 and 8. At every trip the experience was a great one but the best time for a first trip is between 5 and 9.

It sounds like I have a few years before planning on taking the grandchildren. I may have a few more by then! Thanks for all your advice. Sounds like we should plan a "shakedown" trip just me and the husband to get a feel for the place before bringing the kids.
