We're heading down to Calgary/Drumheller for a week in June or July and were wondering where a good spot with full hookups for our 5th wheel. We would like place that has private or semi-private spots (where were not stacked side by side in an open field or parking lot) and we would probably prefer to be east of calgary so tha the day trip to drumheller isnt so far. Staying west of calgary in the mountains would be great but travelling might be easier if we stayed east.

Thanks

Not many "Private sites" with full hook-ups around Calgary that I know of.. especially East. The nicest park with Full hookups.. (Some with Cable) is Mt Kidd in Kananasikis. It's about 50 - 60 minsutes West of Calgary. Some others around with full hookups however it's going to be more like a small tree and a parking pad.

If you want No hookups! then I can recomend some REALLY nice spots. but again.. They will be West.

I always suggest people check out Dinosaur provincial Park. It is NOT near Drumheller but closer to Brooks. I believe this is where a majority of Dinosaurs are and were found. It is still in the bad lands and your kids will really enjoy hiking the hoodoos or the tours they give of the restricted areas. Campground has minimal services but many sites have power and water is avaialable at the dumping station most often.

we stayed at Bow Valley Provincial Park.
it was nice and cool and pretty and an easy drive into Calgary.
we drove in, parked at the University and took the train down to the fair grounds for the rodeo.

Correct, we don't have a lot of full hookup places close by. There is a KOA on the west side of town beside Olympic park. There are several that have electric as well that are fairly close in but full hookups is limited in town.

Tillebrook is about 100 miles east of Calgary on the Trans Canada Hwy #1, no full hook-ups but has power only sites with water and dump station available at the campground.

Trailer Life Directory shows a cg at Strathmore that might do you. Years ago Strathmore was a LONG way out of Calgary - but not so much now!!

Stay away from the Strathmore CG, it is one of the worse places we have stayed at, the units were so close to each other we almost locked rear ladders with the people behind us.

We just stayed at Spring Hill CG just outside of Cochrane this past weekend. Not a bad place to stay, although a wee bit windy, but what place around here isn't windy?

If private parks are a consideration...my recommendation is to stay AWAY from "Whispering Spruce".... it's terrible...or at least it was last year.

KOA isn't bad, better than most. I think our choice would be Riverbend.

We stayed at Beiseker when we "did" Drumheller. Worked out just right.

Try Sundre or Elkton Valley near Cremona. There are also some nice campgrounds in and near Drumheller.
