Just a few random answers:

When I bought the Tundra, I believed the 1,320 that the Keystone listed. I hadn't weighed it. I also looked at the 1,600 payload. I understood that was after driver and tank of fuel. So I though I would be well within my ratings. Since then, I've weighed it and know that the actual pin weight is more than advertised, 1,760 to be exact (see first page) so before I load camping gear I'm over by a few hundred pounds and estimate that I'll be adding more weight to get me maybe 900 lbs over the stock payload. I have not changed any weights -- but where a question has come up I have clarified the numbers I'm talking about.

Hannibal, the load-sensing module mounts, I believe on the rear axle of the Dodge. I believe most trucks have one. It gives proportionally more or less braking action to the rear axle, depending upon load. I'd be surprised if your Dodge didn't have one. And yes, some of my problems were salt-related, especially the (surprisingly expensive) replacement of ALL the brake lines. But that didn't excuse all the things attached to the engine that I needed to replace. Granted some of them were done under warranty, but that still doesn't help for inconvenience of having the truck in the shop, trips back and forth, etc.

Keith, re-read my post. I said NOT a foreign-truck hater. I realize you have a Nissan.

NC, I'm not justifying what I'm doing because "everyone does it". I am explaining that my initial thoughts when I bought this truck, that I would be within my capacities, and it was only much later when I undertook to calculate weights of things like hitch weight, wet instead of dry trailer weight, etc., that I realized I was exceeding my initial numbers.

I, too have had to come to a sudden stop. Driving about 45 MPH through Wausau, WI, someone in the left lane decided they desperately needed a burger, and pulled in front of me, slammed on their brakes to pull into the burger joint. I went from 45 MPH to dead stopped in a big hurry, and I could see the guy behind me almost took out my trailer. I have no complaints in the braking department.

Now axle failures being a daily phenomenon in the RV camping world, I'm sure I'll be next; that is, if the truck wheel bearing doesn't seize up first or the frame doesn't buckle.

If it's some other failure, I will post a cautionary note here if for no other reason than to alert my fellow campers of specific risks they face. Somehow I'm not terrified about that happening, but really I guess anything is possible.

So far my only problems have related to trailer tire blow-outs, I've had twice to deal with treads separating from the tire, the second time resulting in significant damage under the slide-out. Both times, bringing the trailer under control to the side of the road was not especially hairy. I didn't like changing tires with the semis blowing by though. I've since replaced all the stock D-range tires on the trailer with E-rated. Hope I'll not have that problem again, but if I do, I'll be increasing the wheel size on the trailer to 16" and I'll put LT tires on them.

Hey AM, were those tires made in China? Been quite a few threads on those also. Some feel that they've only failed because some don't take care of their tires and/or they aren't properly inflated. I know of more than several who have had Chinese built tires fail and they've done everything right and STILL had tread seperation, I know, off topic, just seemed like a good time for it.

Yeah, the were Chinese Mission tires. Replaced with Chinese Carlisle tires, so I'm not sure that I've done myself any favors. They were protected from UV, properly inflated. . . anyway it wasn't sidewall failure, the tread just kinda separated off the tire. What a damn mess.

One thing to pay the most attention to when buying any camp trailer is the max GVWR and estimate your possibe tongue weight from there. It gives some cushion and real world numbers. One thing I learned here quick is that published dry weights really mean nothing except to salesmen trying to use it to sell more trailer to less truck.

He is talking about the source IP from multiple posters being geographically similar (with strikingly close sign-up dates) He isn't doing it for amusement.

Or should we just call you "Sybil"

Yeah, I wondered about that too - very coincidental. But, I didn't have too much time to check on it because my kid has a puppet at home with cold feet... I am going to go look for some socks.

How do you figure? Source IPs from multiple posters my a$$. And maybe people signed up when they saw a discussion they thought that they could make a contribution to. I have no control over what other people post, what their "geographic IP" is, or when the decide to sign up. Have a look at the number of views this thread has generated. No doubt there are references to here in a bunch of other places, guys saying stuff like "Check out the internet flamewar" and "Wow, what a of friendly people are to be found on RV.net"

And it's too bad he isn't posting baseless accusations for his amusement. Maybe it was the comment "This thread is comedy at its purest" that threw me off.
