Hello, Newbie to truck camping. I am looking to buy a used truck camperhard side. This unit only ways 1250 lbs. I drive a 2006 Dodge single axle turbo deisel 4x4 with 8' long bed. Will the stake pocket brackets be enough to transport camper from Las vegas to Dallas, TX or do I need more equipment? Best regards

If I did it, I'd get the permanent tie-downs before you pick it up. Happi-jacs or Torklift are good products - and are usually available at any RV dealer that sells TC's ... so if you're not sure you're buying it, and are going to inspect first, you can go locally there and have the tie-downs installed. And you might need the electrical connector too -- Takes a couple hours.
Personally, I'd not trust stake-pocket connectors. You're talking a pretty long trip and on interstate highways ... not just across town.

dont think i would over the rockies but my parents did it in the early years with their 1st TC. trust me some sort of frame mounts will make the truck ride much more stable being that you have a single wheel rear axle.
i made mine frame mounts. i have 3 out of the 4 original stake bed mounts from my parents 72 ford f250. kinda funny to think those held that camper over mountains, winds, snows, etc........by the way they are kinda "tweaked".
also double check the fitment to your truck new trucks and old campers dont work well together.
I bought an 85 real-lite(1800lbs empty) and it rides on my 2000 f350 dually. i only have about an 1" fudge factor on all the clearances. had to make extensions to get the jacks out of the way of the dually fenders. had to make jack extensions to get the camper up high enough to clear the foam i used to clear the cab. BUT i got it on.
mine cant move much cause theres no where to go except off the truck!!!!

Even if they do hold ok the camper will feel much more stable when it is tied into the frame. Lots less flex.
I switched many years ago and could not believe the difference.

I would not trust the stake pocket hold downs in any newer truck. They worked OK in the older rigs when they still made bed/boxes from steel vs aluminum foil!!!!
I also vote for frame mount.
Good Luck.

I hauled me camper home with stake pocket ties. I hit 55 mph once or twice, but it was mostly a 50 mph drive for the 200 mile trip.
If it was a pop-up style low profile camper they may work. I would spring for Happijac or Torklift

I put the stake mount bars in my truck to bring the camper home and they bent the stake holes a little bit, but I can flex the steel there with my hands so its not real strong anyway. I'm thinking about using the tie down points in the bottom of the bed.

The over the bedrail clamp on tie downs will work fine for that light weight camper. Pop used them on his camper and I used them on both my campers on 2 different trucks before I built the frame mount tie downs for my last camper before I sold it. Put them on and take your trip, no worries.

what year trucks did pop and you use them on? The bed sheet metal is thinner on newer trucks. I bent mine just coming home.
