Friends,

We will be traveling thru Omaha on the way east and wish to stay for a couple nights while visiting friends. Could you recommend a nice campground. We will be in town about June 2nd-4th.

Thanks,
M.J. McKay

I stayed in the KOA west of town and had no complaints a couple of years ago.

KOAin West Omaha is a good place; also the Pine Grove RV Park is nice, about 15 miles west of Omaha (it's an older campground, but very well maintained and very clean - also the sites are all fairly large). Further west in Lincoln is a really nice campground, Camp-A-Way. We've stayed at all of them when we wanted someplace close for the weekend. No complaints with any of them. Also NE has some good state parks with campgrounds - including several with full hookups. Haven't stayed at any of them yet, but have reservations for later this year - already done a drive-thru and they seem to be pretty well maintained.

There is a nice state park at Lake Manawa just across the river in Iowa, south of Council Bluffs.

We just stayed for a week at Walnut Creek - no full hook-ups - electric only. It is beautiful with big spaces and nice patios. It is in the city of Papillion,NE. Our daughter and her family live it Omaha and it was very close. We liked it much better than the KOA.

M.J. - I would highly recommend Two Rivers State Park west of Omaha. There are several different areas at Two Rivers but the one I like best is the Lakeside camp site. Several of the Lakeside sites have water and electric - the ones by the lake are electric only. The KOA south of Gretna is no closer to Omaha than Two Rivers and certainly is not as nice.

Mahoney State Park is a nice one one on I-80 southwest of Omaha. I would also pick Two Rivers SRA as a good option. Check this website for more options;

Send for the booklet and spend more time in our state.

Haworth Park in Bellevue and Walnut Creek in Papillion are both nice campgrounds.

Safe travels!
