Has anyone used nitrogen in your 16" 5th wheel tires? I have read so many articles about how they will maintain pressure better than air and thought this might be better in trailer tires.

I think the general feeling is that if you can get it done for free go for it. If you need to pay for it the advantages are not worth the price. May help the tires from losing pressure while standing. But that is pretty much it.

I just use what comes out of my compressor. Never had any issues. I do check my tires about once a month for proper pressure and rarely find that it has deteriorated. I would never pay for a shop to pump distilled nitrogen into my tires, I would for one be dubious of their ability to remove pre-existing air held within the tire.

I put 78% nitrogen in my tires. Been doing it for years before it became popular.
I lose less than 1 PSI per month. My tires rot from the outside (UV), never from the inside.
I rate this one right up there with fuel line magnets, Slick 50, and a vortex intake device. Snake oil.

If it's free why not,but saving 1.5 psi a yr. is hardly worth it, and I think the air is about 78% nitrogen anyway.

I don't know what 2manytoyz is talking about. Ever since I installed my intake vortex device, I find my turning radius is 14.7% better. He probably doesn't have his fuel magnets aimed correctly. I've also found using Slick50 keeps the snake oil at the proper pressure; I don't loose more than 2 farads a month with it.
I do use about 78% nitrogen in my tires though, it doesn't cost a bit extra!

I too have read so many things about nitrogen in tires and I think it would make a difference in exteme temperature changes because the nitrogen is suppose to be more stable than an oxygen/nitrogen mix. In my van we have onboard pressure monitor on all four tires. In the hot Houston summer, I can take off with cold tires and after a few miles on the highway, I'll see the pressure increase 3-6 psi. Not sure if thats a big deal though but I"m betting pure nitrogen would reduce that. I'm also betting that with an increase in pressure comes an increase in temperature, again not sure if thats a big deal though.
From what I understand race cars and airplanes use nitrogen, I"ve heard to reduce fire potential and reduce pressure/temperature variations. Not sure if its needed on an everyday car or RV.

DRY air follows the same Boyle's Law for gases as DRY Nitrogen. Introduction of water vapor introduces a degree of variability and instability.
Race car teams use Nitrogen bottles as it is a) dry and b) provides a lot of volume very quickly.
For the average driver there is no economic advantage. If it's free, as others have said, there is no downside.
That said I am a big supporter of the "78% Nitrogen because the price is right" brigade!

I can see you did not do a search on the subject.
