Sorry didn't see that little dot way down there!
I need to travel across these two states up around 40 and I do like staying at KOA's. So far I've been able to stay at KOA's across all the states where I have traveled, bummed I won't be able to in these two states.....unless I change my route and drop down to the Gulf!
To be or not to be - KOA that is! As I understand it KOA affiliation is quite expensive for the cg owner. Besides the cost thecg must meet KOA standards. All in all - I often wonder why a cg owner would even consider affiliating with KOA. Also wonder why any experienced RVer would bother?? Just MHO.

It must not be a KOA anymore, but there used to be one right off I-65 at the Pelham exit...a few miles south of Birmingham. There are some MUCH nicer campgrounds than what a KOA would offer throughout AL and MS, though. Just my opinion! I know everyone has their preferences, but I live in AL and would be happy to give any thoughts on other CG's if you want. Hope you have a great trip!

I'm with you on that! I would stay at a KOA as a very last resort, and that includes there being no noisy Walmart to stay at, and I don't even like staying at a Walmart any more.
Now, Cracker Barrel... that's another story.

You can bash KOA's all you want, but I've never had a bad experience at one and will continue to stay in them from time to time. I've only stayed at one lousy KOA, but I won't name it. However, if you're ever spending the night in Deming, NM, well . . .

I find it interesting that the forum moderators just closed a discussion about the merits of KOAs and are keeping this discussion bashing KOAs open. Is this a directive from the Affinity Group, the owners of this forum? Or what?
Of the 450+ KOAs just 30-35 are owned by KOA corporate. The rest are mom&pops who choose to franchise with KOA for the national advertising. (By the way the franchise costs are not all that expensive.) I find that staying in KOAs to be a good value commensurate with lodging costs in the area in which the campground is located. In all my travels, I found only one KOA to be the proverbial parking lot. The rest, I got what I paid for... good quality with friendly people. I will continue to stay in KOAs.

This is correct. We stayed there for our shakedown initial camping outing when we got our previous tt - a Jayco Flight 20BH. They are also a Good Sam CG and give the discounts applicable to either. For an overnighter or short stay it is very good. Pool, special enclosed dog walking are very nice shower/restrooms and very handy to the interstate (4 min) and lots of area shopping and eating places.
They guided us in and helped us get our tt aligned...even gave us an end spot. They were very friendly and helpful. If you are traveling close to Birmingham I think you would find it a good place to stay.
