So do these hook to a water source or do you fill them up with water to make the ice?

I bought an Emerson at Menards for 139.00 this past Saturday. I waited a Magic Chef but couldn't find one in my area and didn't want to pay for shipping and possible returns if it didn't work. So far the Emerson is working great. Most of the ice I made Saturday night was thrown away because it had a funny taste, but that eventually went away. We're leaving to go camping this Friday and will be gone for nine nights. I estimate we have over 60 pounds of ice made and stored in two gallon ziplock bags right now and I've been turning it on when I come home from work about 5 and letting it run until about 11. My husband will have to come home almost everyday to go to work so he'll just grab a bag before he comes back to the campground. Haven't decided if we need to take it along to the campground or not. At this point I am very pleased with it.

This is the second season for my Magic Chef portable ice maker...we have a seasonal site and my ice maker sits on top of a kitchen cart in the corner of my kitchen...we always keep at least 2 bags in the camper freezer and when we get low we just make more....haven't had to buy a single bag of ice since we bought it...if we are having company for the weekend, I just let it run....keeps up just fine...we bought it at the end of season clearance sale at Home Depot for $149.00....we are totally happy....all my neighbors love to ask me for ice....my neighbor loved the ice so much she bought one for herself....

Just bought the Emerson from Target. Pretty quiet. Takes exactly 12 min. to freeze one batch of small cubes. Are the others any faster or is that the norm? Not too bad just want to know if the pricier ones are quicker. Emerson says 26#/24 hrs. Thanks, Steve A. Dagro

For those of you interested, Target has an Emerson in their ad this week for $109.00. It has a different brand name, but looks just like mine. I'm trying to use filtered water in mine, but I need ideas how to decalcify the unit. I'm sure after a while minerals will accumulate.

I'm thinking about getting one for out extended boondocking trips. If I get one I guess I could recycle the water out of the cooler (melted ice) and re-use it instead of bringing another cooler. It looks like they only use about 300 watts. Any thoughts on recycling the water?

DW bought ours yesterday for $139.99 Now today they are $109.00 She may bring it back and repurchase at lower price. Don't want to sound cheap but 30 bucks is 30 bucks!! Steve

P.S. Will the cubes ever clear up or will they always be whitish?? Also don't really see a lot of difference in the 3 cube sizes on this model.
