I am heading to Pigeon Forge in Late July for a family reunion and on the way I am gonna camp inside the Smokey Mountain NP at Cades Cove and Elkmont.

Will the roads inside the park be too steep for my little Class C pulling our Saturn? Should I just leave the car at home and rent one once we get settled into Pigeon Forge after the NP camping is done?

Thanks much!

They're hills not mountains, well to me anyways.
Cades Cove is not 'on' any mountain.
Elkmont is next to a 2500 foot hill, but it is in a valley.

You shouldn't have any problems. You will have a few short climbs but nothing terrible. Only 441 going over the top of the mountains have a long steep climb but I see Class Cs towing cars going over it alot.

Take your car spend the money you save on the rental to attend an extra show.

Even on 441 I don't remember anything more than about 06% grade and that's found on many Interstate highways. Good luck and enjoy the park / Skip

There are hundreds of all types of RV's with all types of configurations in the park and surrounding areas every day. You won't have any problens at all. Be sure to watch a few areas with rocks that are close to the road.

Happy camping

I think most interstates are limited to a 6% grade or less. Ive never been on any interstate in the Smokeys thats been more. (at least that I can remember). We just towed thru Martinsville Va on a 2 lane with a 10% grade and I was surrounded by MHs/toads and fivers/TTs. They seemed to be doing fine as we were doing fine also.

Hike up to the Chimney Tops and tell me you just climbed a "hill"!

only thing i found was that some of the tunnels in the area can be a bit tight. arched and close to the edges. 2 vehicles passing can be quite unnerving...

The drive from Cherokee to Gatlinburg is very nice....was some road construction near the top. Drive was a little rough with the dually w/ stick.
