I will be driving from Avon (near Vail) to Durango on I70W to hwy 50S to hwy 550. How long does this drive take time wise and how is the scenery? We will be there in about 3 weeks.

It's roughly 6 hours from what I remembered. Typical high country scenery common to the four corner states. Have a fun trip.

If this is your first time over 550 between Ouray and Silverton take a deep breath on your way out of Ouray and enjoy the ride! Could be the high lite of your trip.

Thanks guys that is what I was thinking. It maps out at about 300 miles but with the roads it would take longer. And yes it's my 1st time driving this road and I've heard it's beautiful.

The drive from Ouray to Durango will take darn close to 3 hours. I could make it in 2 1/2 in the toad but you will not be able to travel that fast in an RV.
