Was wondering if anyone had ever tried going toward Churchill in Canada in October to see the polar bears? I know you have to to Thompson and then take the train to Churchill because there are no roads?
Anyone have the experience?

I had a previous customer that flew to Churchill from Edmonton airport - it was a fantastic time they said. That was a couple of years ago. If my memory serves me correctly, they flew up and back the same day. But just seeing the bears was something else they said.

It would most likely cost a lot of money in fuel to drive the road from Winnipeg to the train.

I used to live in Churchill. Seeing the bears is a great experience. I've always flown in so I don't have any experience with the drive. You can also hop on the train in Winnipeg.
If you are planning to go, make reservations now for hotel and tundra buggy cause things fill up fast.
Enjoy, it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Yes sir - a couple of years ago we went by caravan (Fantasy Tours) and had a wonderful time. AS I understand it - you better have reservations for the train, motel and for the tundra tour itself. Only two companies are licensed for tundra tours and they are limited as to the number of 'buggies' that can go out each day. Also - most of the cgs are closed by that time of year - the tour companies make special arrangements for nightly stops.

Anyone do this on there own... it seems $ 6,000 for 13 days is a bit high. Train. hotels and food in Churchill for 3 days and 2 Tundra buggy rides must be cheaper... anyone do all this planning on there own???
