My wife and I decided to make a quick trip into Prescott NF last Tues-Thurs. It was great to go mid-week and avoid the crowds. We camped along Senator Hwy, an old mining road, that connects Prescott and Crown King. The road was originally a toll road and travelers were charged $1.50 per wagon and .50 per horse and rider. There is alot of mining history in the area and there are many remains of mining camps and towns along the way.
We arrived via the Mayer-Goodwin Rd.

We set up camp at one of the primo campsites in the area.

Here is the creek below camp. On the last day a guy set up his dredging equipment a couple hundred yards away. I made freinds with him and ended up panning up some gold and helped him work up his spoils after 3 hours of dredging.

The dogs had a blast eating treats, exploring, and running around sans leash.

...and stealing my chair.

We took the buggy out to do some riding and exploring. It sure is a blast to fly down the trails around there.

We did some hiking and found some cool spots and cool frogs.

Me showing off my theory of Pork + Beer...

= Hammock

All in all, it was a very nice trip. We were able to get out of the 95 degree weather and maddness of Phx and relax in the woods. I hope you enjoy.

Looks like a great time, DW and I were wondering what it is like there in November, kind of cold here and would like to drop south about then.
My feet are fine as long as they are traveling.

Very nice pictures.
That is the style of hammock I used in my backpack days.
I hope you were able to keep some of that gold.

You know after all the years in the Valley, we've never been to Crown King & surrounding areas.
Great pics and we're now vowing to go...

Itchy - this area is at about 5000ft elevation so it will be cold in november. you can find great weather in the desert at lower elevations.
Matho- yes, this hammock is nice and portable. I found it at Wal Mart for $10. Made in the US, CA no less.
I only found a small flake panning and it fell off of my fingertip and could not find it again. The gentleman that was dredging did all the work, I just helped him clean out the mats and the sluice box. He on the otherhand had much better luck.
Brit- Its only 1.75 hrs from my home in Glendale to that camp spot. Its an easy and fast escape. You should definately check out crown king its one of a kind.

Looks like you guys had a good time. Nice looking pictures. By coincidence I bought a rack of baby back pork ribs and some beer today. I think I am going to copy you and eat those tomorrow.
