NOT that anyone at the border ever asked yet, but if they should want to see proof of vaccination, do you get such a thing when you buy vaccinations online? (I posted my vet bill rant in the Pet forum.) We really do pay to get the Certificate of health before we cross every year, is that good enough? She's family, you know, whatever it takes, but I'd like to save on the shots.
Barb, If you do a little research, you will find that the health certificate is only required for livestock, birds and the "commercial importation" of domestic animals, not household pets, so don't waste your money. All the regulations require is that you "provide proof of rabies vaccination", nothing about where or how it was purchased or administered. Ours have their rabies shot only, never a certificate of health.

We have been to several campgrounds who wanted proof of shots, signed by vet.
We have found crossing border is MUCH easier if we hand the guard our passports, AND a signed certificate of well animal for our dog, all at one time. Is it required, I don't care. Sure works well for us. Also has been accepted at every CG requiring proof of shots (but not many ask). Vet charges us very little for certificate.

Doesn't ANYONE buy the shots online? I was told it's become very common.

I don't think it is legal in any state, certainly not in ours. (Who would issue the rabies tags?) It is definitely not very common.
I have a soltion to your problem. There is a great vet in Hermosillo. Before you leave Mexico he can do the rabies shot and provide a cert. of health. Very reasonable. In more than 25 years of visting Mexico we have never been asked for anything for our cats by the Mexicans. But have been asked for health certs and a rabies tag by the Americans. BTW: For all you Canadians: This vet in Hermosillo issues your baby a photo Identification card that is bar coded . When you go for a visit he scans the card and all you pet's records appear!! My Health Clinic ( for humans) in Canada does not even have a computer. All records are done just like in 1930. So much for the Canadian health system. A Mexican vet puts us to shame!!
Thanks, Moisheh! Just googled the vaccine laws: conflicting information.
"The following states have laws prohibiting the shipment of rabies vaccines: AK, AL, CA, CT, GA, IL, IN, KS, MD, ME, MN, MS, MT, NC, ND, NV, NJ, NM, NY, OR, RI, SC, SD, TX, UT, WA, WV, WY."
However, several sites say if I can get the vet to write me a prescription, I can get it, but I read mail-order vaccines might arrive inactive due to improper refrigeration.
You will not be disappointed. He and his wife are both vets and they love animals. He tends to be holistic but that is OK. When you need a prescription for your pet he tries to use human medications as they are much cheaper. When our Sally Mae was attacked by 2 vicious mutts he went to his office after hours to tend to her wounds with no extra charges!!
