I may be getting alittle greedy but I seem to try and go after what I want. Anyhow I want to know if any of you carry a heavier aluminum boat 14 foot on a boat rack while towing the TT. The reason I am saying I am greedy is I love fishing and the boat I am looking at is a 14 aluminum with storage and livewell it ways around 400lbs. I will have a trailer for it aswell for none camping trips. I know I can make a system to help with loading it on the rack. Just never heard of people carry a boat of this size.. what are the thoughts. And yes I am still young 35, so I can handle the weight for alittle while yet.
I see no issue carrying 400 lbs. This is the rack I use to carry boats and any other toy I can get my hands on.
I used to have a steel rack before I added a canopy, the steel rack had zero flex and I'm sure I had closer to 1000 lbs on that one many times. This one I'll limit to ~500 lbs.
Don't think your being greedy. My next plan in to build a rack that sits over the cab and the front of the truck and flips down forward. I want to design it so I can load a 12' RIB and trailer. When I get to camp, unhook TT, flip down boat and trailer, then drive to best fishing spots. Now that's greedy.

Been running B100 home brew June 2008!
I made a homemade one for my 16' canoe that was very inexpensive and very strong. I am sure it would hold 400lbs. with no issues. It doesn't look as fancy as commercial racks, but it is easy on the wallet. You just have to hook up to the TT to make sure you have given yourself enough clearance.
Here are a few pics, and a link to more.
Of course it gets ratchet straps over the front and rear.
The rails screwed to the top of the crossmembers fit the gunwales exactly and keep thte canoe from yawing.
I covered it with enamel paint, and spar eurythane for protection.
Just an idea but I love to fish and I bought a Native Watercraft Ultimate 12 (they also make a 14.5 ft.) go to this forum, tells all about them and the best way to rigem' up.
These boats are fishing machines. They are light @ 50 to 65 lbs and the U14 can be fished single and double. You can also add an electric motor. Depending on which one you choose it's under a grand. One of the most comfortable seats out there which makes a big diffence when fishing all day. I would look at it before buying anything.
If you have any Qs let me know, I'm not a dealer, I just love this boat.

I just bought a Lund 14DLX - 14.5 foot, Livewell and side storage. Boat weighs in at 390 lbs. I have not towed yet but have carried it on the power rack on my truck. Looking forward to towing though.

You might also get an idea on fabricating a swivel-yoke to help getting it up there.....I got one for my canoe from Cabela's....works slick---mounts to a 2" receiver, but I welded a mod to mount on top of any 2" hitch bar, so I could use it and still tow...even my grandson at 10 yrs. can load the 85# canoe on the TV by himself....
I'd love to have a video of one adult loading a 400# boat to the roof without any mechanical or human help!!!!! Even with a swivel-yoke like mine, one guy is still gonna' have to handle +/-200#....
Good luck....

I have a Model 1464 Monark, 14' long and a 64" beam, with a live well built into the middle seat. I'm not sure of the weight but it's got to be up there as the boat has a 900 lb capicity.
I made a rack out of 1 1/4" PVC for the top of the alum shell. I turn the boat upside down, I back the truck up near the bow, the wife and I lift the bow and I hold it while she backs the truck up until the bow is over the rear of the rack. Then we both push and lift the stern, it slides on the PVC like it's riding on roller bearings. I'm 61 yrs, 5' 10", weight 180 and have an artificial leg above the knee. The wife is only 5' 2" so the boat gets out of reach quickly.
In Indiana we have a 65' length limit for pulling doubles. So I had to cut about 6' out of the boat tounge and fix the coupler to slip in for a long and short version of my trailer. I end up with a boat trailer the looks like it's for a jet ski behind the TT. Once at the campground I reassemble the trailer and put the boat back on it.
Lets go fishing.

If you live in a place where you are allowed "triples" you could simply have a hitch installed on the back of your TT and pull the trailer.
When we bought our new TT we had the dealer install a receiver hitch on the back. they cut off the flimsy stock bumper and welded a heavier square tube with a receiver attached. Now we can pull the TT and a light boat as well. You've just got to ensure that 1) triples are allowed in your state, and 2) your total length doesn't exceed the limit allowed by law.

This is the boat I am looking at does the power rack lift it ok? And how do you like the boat does 20 move it nicely? Also where did you buy from? They want about 3600 for the boat and 3400 for the motor and 1100 for the trailer... Thanks

Love the boat. The 20 hp engine moves it pretty good. It only takes up to a 25 hp anyways. I have not had it at full throttle for long as I am still in the break in period for the engine. The prices seem very reasonable. I bought mine at a Langley Marine shop. I had to upgrade the winch system for the boat rack due to the weight of the boat other than that, it works great.
