The time is almost here for us to head on our trip of the summer to DC. This will be our first time at Cherry Hill CG and cant wait after all we have read on here. We have tours of the white House and Capital arrainged by our congressman, We are also going to visit MT Vernon and all of the normal monuments and museums. Here is the question. What is the one thing worth seeing that most visitors never go to see that you found by accident and were glad you did? Also, is there a grocery store near the CG? Id prefer to wait and buy what we need there.

We just left Cherry Hill Monday, after 4 days. We also did the White House and U S Capitol. We had previously done Mt.Vernon On 9/13/01. Other museums that was top on our list was National Archives(view the original Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, Bill of
Rights and the Magna Carta) the American History Museum,Natural History Museum,Holocaust Museum,Vietnam Memorial Wall, Lincoln Monument, Washington Memorial and some others.

There is a Marketplace about a mile from CG.

Make sure you have directions to the CG as those supplied on the CGs literature are bogus.

They have great directions to the Metro station if you want to drive your vehicle or a Metro bus stops right in the CG. Just ask how to use the Metro and Parking lot Smart Cards.

We also went over to Annapolis and Baltimore. Just on the edge of Baltimore is Fort McHenry, the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner. Was able to see and touch two of the bombs bursting in air and stood on the ramparts and other things associated with this period. The day before, I believe in the American History Museum, viewed the actual Star Spangled Banner--The actual flag that flew over the Fort when Francis Scott Key wrote the Four verse National Anthem. I didn't know that SSB was originally written as a poem and it was not selected as our NA until the 1930s. Wow, how much cooler can that be. The Tour of Annapolis was great.

Enjoy, you have many great things ahead of you to see and do.

We are presently in Gettysburg and toured the battlefield today--Awesome.

Left Cherry Hill about a month ago. Someone already answered about grocery store. We were told by a local we must go on top of the Old Post Office for the view. It was great you can see everything in DC from there. Enjoy you trip we had a wonderful time.

We will be staying at travel trailer village from monday 22nd to 7/6, and will be touring DC in a lot slower pace then before. My find was at the Arlington House at the Arlington National Cemetery. Walk behind the house and down the sidewalk. If u remember your American history, the names on those stones will jump out and become larger than life.

There is a Shoppers Food Warehouse at the intersection of Route 1 and Cherry Hill Road, about a mile east of the CG entrance.

The International Spy Museum isn't exactly something that nobody knows about but it was one of the highlights of our visit last year. If you have the time and the inclination the spy adventure (extra charge to the regular admission) is a blast, especially if you have kids. The (relatively) new Air & Space Museum out by Dulles is worth the trip too - lots of historic aircraft in a hangar type setting that you can walk around & get close to.

We were in DC at the beginning of the month and spent a delightful hour at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. It's across the street from the National Archives. Besides the fun and interesting outdoor sculptures, there is a wonderful pond and fountain where you can sit on the side and dip your feet in, and a cafe that sells pink lemonade (free refills!). Also plenty of shade and clean public restrooms. A genuine oasis on the Mall, and a perfect way to rest and rejuvenate from a hot day of sightseeing! Look for the big round typewriter eraser (for those of us old enough to remember what those were used for!)

We were there June 17-23. Staff very friendly and helpful. Store best stocked with everything needed by rvers. Bath house very nice. Our site was muddy since it had been raining for two days. They did put down fresh gravel after our second nite. Shuttle to metro every few minutes pretty much on schedule. We were on the train behind the one that crashed into the one that was stopped. We were on our way back to the cg from the National Zoo where we had taken our grandson. We stopped to eat before getting on the metro (redline) back to CH and thus missed being involved. We did have to wait quite a while till the metro organized shuttle buses to take us back to CH. If you like to ride public transportation DC is your place. Forget personal vehicle since it's a lot quicker to take the train or bus.

Head out to Great Falls National Park in Virginia for a picnic. The upper Potomac is quite scenic with large falls. You'll find mostly locals there.

As others have said, the grocery store is within one mile and is a fully stocked, large store. I agree with all the recommendations. The Air and Space Museum near Dulles is worth the trip if you are at all interested in aviation. The Spy Museum is nice but you have to pay. Don't forget the National Archives. You learn about the Constitution and Declaration of Independence but here to get to see the originals. You can also visit the aquarium in Baltimore.

CH has dog walking services you may want to consider, you could be away for some time.
