We spent three months in Sonora (Kino Bay) and thought that we have no difficulty in getting a refund from ICBC as we kept our toll receipts and had campground receipts to prove we were in Mexico. When we submitted these documents along with our proof of Mexican insurance it was rejected by ICBC because it did not have our vehicle plate or VIN number on the receipts, we will be able to get our campground to issue us a new receipt with our truck and trailer plates numbers on it. So just for future reference, if you don't need a temporary vehicle import permit get some other proof with your vehicle plate number on it.

We have been making the Mexican Winter Trip for the last 10 Years or so and haven't had trouble getting Our refund ever!
We always make sure to Write Our License Number on All the Mexican Documents and Campground receipts.
We take Digital Pictures of The FMT , Passport Stamps and Temp Vehicle Import Papers and make color prints .
That and a polite Letter to ICBC has always been accepted!
The fact that You were only in Senora does present a few extra challenges as there is very little documentation available to support Your claim. This also holds true for BAJA . It is Very important to ask for Gas Receipts Etc and again write Your Plate Number on those at every occurrence.

ICBC will give a refund for those months while you are in Mexico as your insurance is not valid. We have been doing this for about 10 years also and have never had any problems. We supply campground receipts, toll receipts, import receipt, vehicle registration, drivers license and entry/exit passport stamps. We have never written our license number on any of them. These are all copies and we keep originals just in case. We also go through an agent who sends the information to the head office customer service. We have never had any problems and they have always refunded the amount for the 2 months we are in Mexico. The refund just about pays for the Mexican insurance on one of our vehicles.

We don't have air care in Campbell River. I also went through our insurance agent and had them fax in our claim, they also carry our 5th wheel insurance. We received a refund based on our information on our trailer but the same information was not acceptable to ICBC. I think the main problem is our lack of a temporary vehicle import permit, the permit would have a vin number and a entrance and exit date.

Mudchucker, we received a refund from MPIC Autopac, when we returned from Mexico. Just kept the receipts from turning in our sticker at the border, made application to MPIC for refund of uninsured time in Mexico, along with the receipt of Mexican auto insurance and no problem.

We have always received our refunds in a timely manner, both from ICBC and from private insurers for comprehensive coverage. It did become more of a challenge when we got our first Ten-Year decal, and made us doubly aware of saving documents that clearly had the vehicles in Mexico for the duration we had them there. Pemex stations can usually give fuel receipts.

We applied for a refund this spring for 5 months. It more than paid for our Mexican insurance. ICBC's letter mentioned the license plate number thing but still gave us the $.
An ICBC rep told me on the phone that the license has to be printed on everything. Basically print it yourself before mailing it all in. Pretty dumb but whatever. Beauraucratic red tape.

We too have had no problem with ICBC even with the new 10 year permit on the MH. I think it helps to apply through the broker. Ours has been very helpful and has written the letter and forwarded the paperwork on our behalf. We get the refunds just in time to buy the next year's insurance for the toad!
Campground receipts and fuel receipts seem to work for the MH, as well as photocopies of the FMT and in and out stamps in our passports.
