BallsDeep wrote: I recently purchased a new Honeywell generator for my TH. The TH has an Onan 5k in it already; I was hoping to use the Honeywell as a way to keep the hours down on the Onan. So far, the Honeywell is descent for the money but is still pretty loud. I read through all 15 pages of this post and the noise factor seems to be a consistent topic. Has anyone pulled this apart and tried putting dynamat or foam of some sort to help quiet it down? I was gonna try to do this to my unit but wanted to see if anyone had experience and if it made much difference
UPDATE- I went to my local Pep Boys and purcashed a roll of Dynamat to help dampen some of the sound. I pulled the generator apart and stuck the Dynamat in the appropriate places and it still didnt really help with the noise levels. Guess I cant complain to much for the money spent, I can always turna round and sell it. The generator would be perfect if the noise levels stayed at the lowest level with no draw when geny is idling.
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions on quieting this usit down more.

How bad was taking it apart and getting it back together ? Did parts want to spring out all over the place ? I would have thought that it would have made it less noisy. Has anyone tried to put a regular primer in place of the one they have on it that will shoot gas into the carb. Other that hard to start mine seems to be OK for the money.
Ain't no HONDA though !!

Mine has had one since hour zero and I can't narrow down what's causing it. It's not even noticable from some angles but at other angles (facing the exhaust side) it's a slight "pinging" that can be maddening after a while.
Ours is outside puttering away as I type this - we're boondocking for the weekend. Still pleased overall (It's a heck of a lot quieter then my old Champion) but the pinging noise is getting to me.
Is that pinging noise odd sounding? Sort of like someone tapping on a odd sounding bell continuously? If so I think I might have the same sound.

Yep, I'd say that describes it. I've ruled out a loose screw or nut rattling around inside the unit as it's simply been through too much "rocking and rolling" while traveling for anything like that to be still making noise. I suspect something inside the recoil, personally.
I'm taking mine to the service depot tomorrow to get it looked at for the no-output issue. If the jingling noise gets resolved at the same time I'll consider it a bonus.

Keep us updated please. I have about 14 hours on my genset and I would rather it went out while under warranty than after it expires.

I wrote to a man by the name of 'China Dave' @ Allexperts.com and ask this question. "Are the engines on most new Chinese Inverter gensets from a past Honda design"? The answer was 'yes'.~ Are they out of the same factory with same quality, I don't think so. We can all ask are the K/O's equal to one with the name of Honda on the the genset? Is the Honeywell a close copy? Maybe some one will put them side by side and give a full report?

When i tore one of mine right dowm, i was impressed with the engine on the honeywell overhead cam, timining chain, but the whole fuel system is the weak link IMHO.
On another note;
The gen has compression, good spark, the bowl is full of gas but wont start no matter how many times you pull it. What can it be? If theres gas in the bowl can it still need more?

it needs to suck the gas thru the main jet
if the jet is clogged if any ports are clogged in the carb or if there is a vacuum leak some place, it won't vaporize the fuel
try removing the fuel pump vacuum line from the intake manifold and plug/cap the nipple on the manifold. the fuel pump won't run , but if the engine starts, you have narrowed down the problem.
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother
