I will be going to the Smoky Mountains bringing the fifth wheel and the bike during the second week in August.

I was wondering if anyone has some advice on where to base my camp and enjoy riding the smokies ?

I would be coming up I-59 and most likely jumping onto I-75 and would like to stay to the south west or west of the smokies but close enough that I can ride up and down the mountains daily.

I see where hwy 411 or hwy 64 -74 might be a consideration. If you have some info on campgrounds in that area, please advise.

Thanks in advance,

Ray

I suggest staying in Townsend TN.
Go to rvparkreviews.com
and look under that city.
Also, on the internet go
to DRAGONS TAIL......the
most winding (dangerous)
road I ever saw, near
Townsend, and a favorite
of motorcycle riders with
a desire to get killed.

Thanks, I've ridden the Dragons Tail but at the time I was with some buds and we home based out of Cherokee NC. I really enjoyed that trip.

This time I'm going with my wife and we're looking for a campground around the south, southwest area of the smokies.

Hey two,

Not been there but there is the iron horse motorcycle camp in NC.

http://www.ironhorsenc.com/

We have stayed twice at river plantation, no problem whatsoever with the bikes, had 3 there last year.

this year we are going to try Pine Mountain...

Both were close enough to ride the smokies and still have amenities close by.

Hope that helps, let me know if I can do anything..

PS. LOVED the Dragon's tail, just have to watch out for the whackos that try to drive big rigs over it.
Have not tried the Cherahola yet, probably this year, they say it is just as nice if not nicer.

We've stayed in Maggie Valley, within a nice ride to Cherokee, also to the waterfalls in nearby Transylvania County. Also in Maggie Valley there is a motorcycle museum called, I think, Wheels Through Time. We stay at Stonebridge RV park.

Little river campground Now a KOA is a nice campground in townsend. Havent been there since KOA bought them out. There is a nice looking Koa in Cherokee to, just done a ride through there. Not really a KOa fan. And in main drag of Pigeon Forge is Riveredge it is not exactly roomy (RV Resort Like)but is always well kept and clean. Mike

I can recommend Punkin Center. It's a couple of miles from the top of the Dragon and few miles south of Marysille in 129. About a mile a way from motorcycle repair shop. Right in the area you describe.
