Does anyone know if you can still camp and swim at Kingsley Beach in Starke FL on SR 16? Or do you know of a place in the area where you can swim in a lake? I want to take the grand kids tomorrow. I found a web site that makes me believe it's open but I can't get through on the phone.

Boy! That jogs a memory. We lived in Kingsley Lake Village (government owned) in 1945 when my dad was working civil service at Camp Blanding.

Are you referring to Strickland's Landing at Kingsley Lake? If so, I'm sad to report that it closed 2 or 3 years ago. It seems that the senior Mr. Strickland passed away and left it to his children, then along comes our wonderful government agency the IRS demanding payment of the inheritance tax and the property had to be sold. My understanding is the property was sold to a developer that intended to build condos there. Just makes you feel all "warm and fuzzy" about our great elected officials......NOT.

Another geezer here since grew up in Jax...spent a lot of time here in the 40's and early 50's. Think there was a YMCA camp on/near here? Boy Scout too. Great memories
