Is there anyone out there that is a member of the RVing Womens Club. I would like to know your opinion. I want to go fulltiming and would like to have a support system. Also I would like to know if there is any women out there who would like to start a group that would travel together for safety purposes. I believe there is more safety in numbers. You know, people who still want a independent life but like the security knowing that if something does go wrong there is someone there that can help. Let me know your opinions.

Thanks

Check out LOWs (loners on wheels) or BOF at escapees (birds of feather).

Check out the Women's RV forum that is sponsored by RV.net. There are a lot of single rvers on that site and they may have some suggestions.

I am a solo FT'er, but I don't belong to any women's clubs. I don't think the FT lifestyle fits with "group" travel, but I do understand your safety and support concerns. I make sure my ERS is up to date, cell phone, gps, cb, and weather radio give me peace of mind while on the road. In most instances help is just a call away, if needed. I have an aircard for my laptop to provide internet for plotting routes, finding cg's, and research the new area. I stay in touch with family and friends on a pretty regular basis. All in all, I feel very safe and love meeting new people and seeing/doing new things. Don't let your fears keep you from living your dream; go for it, if you feel more comfortable joining a club-do it. Maybe our paths will cross someday down the road. Kathy

Kathy, Thank you for your post and yes safety is an issue. But don't you miss having someone there to share the great sights with. Joy Ethridge said it best when she described them as the AH-HA moments. You know a beautiful sunset, a animal, a waterfall? I think those moments are why I want to fulltime. My husband and I still talk about the woodpeckers we saw on our camping trip to Northern CA. I think apart from the safety issue that is the single most issue keeping me here.

Thanks again for your reply

I often head out alone (well....as alone as you can be with 5 dogs) and I absolutely LOVE the solitude...I'm not much of a joiner...and I think you will find that many women who full-time or even travel alone are also "loners"...I do enjoy visiting with others at campgrounds...but I don't want to just move from location to location with a group...for me it's all about finding new things to see, stopping to check out little shops or local cafes...can't do that on a "traveling agenda in a group"....as for "sharing the moments"....I love photography and scrapbooking....I take all those "moments" (including a huge collection of sunrises, sunsets, and stormy cloud formations) and put them into scrapbooks to "relive" again and again.

Loners on Wheels and BOF are great ideas. But any "club" which discriminates based on sex has no place in the 21st century. IMO.

I hate to be the one to brak this to you bub, but LOWs has as many SINGLE men members as single women, same is true for the BOF at escapees. Get another chip to place on your shoulder.

We aren't on the road yet, but will be in less than a year.

Personally I think sometimes "belonging" to a club would make one set an itinerary to be close to the people in the club, and personally I just want the wind to blow me in the direction we end up travelling.

Having said that tho, I also firmly believe that the folks you meet at the campground can be just as friendly and if some are heading in your general direction, a convoy can be fun!

If you are in a hybrid (which I think you are?) you may be more concerned with safety than we will be in the Motorhome (we won't be fulltiming in the Hybrid we currently have). But if you stick to campgrounds that are secure and have a good reputation (KOA comes to mind?) you may feel more secure than you think.

I just don't want to be living on someone else's itinerary.

JMHO of course.

Feel free to PM me if you want to get together somewhere on the road next summer!

See you around the campfire!
