OK, so tell me if this is feasible. In my power cord compartment I have a 25' 50amp power cord. I have used a dogbone 50to30 adapter to connect a 25' 30amp cord, much easier to thread through the floor access door and run to the power post. That big ol' 50 amp cord is a pain to work around, as it sits right on the access door, blocking easy access. I have only one Air conditioner, and have no plans for another. Can I remove the 50 amp cord completely and direct wire a 30 amp in it's place? Carrying around about 50lbs of cord I never use seems like a waste to me. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Well yes, but you will ALSO need extemsive rewiring of your rig, and likely a new converter.

30 amp systems have ONE 120 VAC 30 amp input to run all in the RV.

50 amp systems have TWO 120 VAC 50 amp inputs to run all in the RV.

So in effect your system hookup can use 100 amps worth of gadgets, where a 30 amp system is limited to 30 amps.

Do you ever run A/C and microwave together? I can not as my 30 amp system can't handle it, so I run one or the other. You ok doing that?

Lots to consider, but to answer your question, sure you can do that, if you really really want to.

It never hurts to have too much capacity. Even if it were easy, you may eventually regret changing over.

I would just unhook the big cord, buy a short length of appropriate 3wG? for 50 amp and put a male plug on it. then convert your old cord with a 50 amp socket. use a 30 to 50 adapter on the short length of cord to hook your old 30 amp extension cord onto. that way you can always hook up to 50 amp if required.

I made a 30 amp cord to use at home. If we camp somewhere that only has 30 amps, I will use it there also.

There is no need to re-wire your rig, just make the cord and use a 50 amp plug on the RV end and a 30 amp male for the supply end.

Or, if you're lazy, like me, you can go to CW and buy a 30A cord that has 30A male end & a 50A female end. We only have one ac and have yet to need the big ugly 50A cord.

Yup just use a30 A cord and put a 50 A connector on the trailer end. Won't need to rewire rig. Won't need to replace converter. You'll just have to jumper the 2 "hot" together on the 50A connector. As there is only 1 hot leg on a 30A cord

You really meant to put the jumper on the 30 amp cord, right? A jumper between the two hot legs on the 50 amp cord should make for some showy sparks, just before the breakers pop.

Actually, to really answer your question without telling you it's not smart- you can easily remove the 50 amp cord and install a 30 amp. The 'hot' wire from the 30 amp cord will attach in the same place as one of the 50 amp hot legs. Then jumper the two hot legs together. Hook the 30 amp neutral to the same place as the current 30 amp is installed (white), and then install the green wire to the existing ground.

You will have 30 amps.

Correct and there is no need to replace converter.
