Hey guys
While towing our TT,I notice when turning the WDH makes some creeking noise......almost like somethings being stressed to much, and wants to snap. Is this normal or is this a sign something is setup wrong?

It is normal to get some groaning, squeeking, sometimes banging, or other noises when turning. Are you lubing your bars and ball? The bars should be greased where they insert into the hitch head and the ball should have grease on it. There are tremendous forces between steel on steel and lubrication is necessary. If not lubed, wear, noise and sometimes costly replacement can happen.

Sometimes you will notice a bit of noise when turning sharply as in when backing into a campsite or making any other sharp turn. This is often from the springs or axles as they get twisted a bit during the maneuver. This is normal also and should not be a concern.

The head is greased, but not the bars. I have the round bar style setup. Where would grease go on the bars?

grease the bars where they go into the head those 2 holes that they pass through.. be sure and clean all that grease up after each use as well, I have some paper towels in my front storage, when I unhook at camp I clean it all up so as not to have road grit and grime in there when I hook back up.

was gonna mention as well, the noises are normal, even the odd clunking you may feel under your feet is normal...seriously... wait till you add somthing like a friction sway control and take a wrong turn down a city exit... every city block turn you make your going to feel like saying 'excuse me'...

If you are getting a lot of cracking and popping sounds then look real close where the springs are attached to the frame. My frame on my 34' tahoe TT cracked at three points where the springs were attached.

Agree with Barney...

When I bought my first TT new no one told me to grease where the bars went into the head... So loud it was embarassing going thru the campgrounds. Grease worked wonders!

not may people over here at campsites have seen an American trailer and car - let alone a WD hitch, so I always get odd looks when pulling in with the bars creaking and groaning! if I had an electric tounge jack, I'd be tempted to take the bars off just outside the campsites!

Sounds normal. They do creak and pop from time to time.

I have the same noises and I clean and grease religously. I have the weight bars with the round pieces that are inserted into the hitch holder. All you have to do to figure out where to apply grease is to look at the bars and look for any areas that are shiny and worn- these are the points where it contacts other metal.
